RINGSIDE AT DEL MAR KICKS OFF THE 2015 SEASON

Updated Press Release:

Del Mar, CA (March 25, 2015) – Paco Presents, Jorge Marron Productions in association with A&T Boxing present the first edition of the year of the popular Ringside at Del Mar boxing series to be staged at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Friday, March 27, 7pm. Rising star and crowd favorite Elias “Latin Kid” Espadas (7-1, 3 KOs) takes on a resurgent Adan “Ram” Leal (9-4, 7 KOs) in the featured middleweight six-round main event, the last of six exciting bouts.

Espadas, who trains locally out of Lakeside but is originally from Merida, Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula, is a boxer-puncher who possesses power from both hands. He made his TV debut on Golden Boy Live! in December at Del Mar and earned a compelling six-round majority decision over a game Carlos Lopez. The former Mexican Olympian was precise and active in winning over the judges despite a two inch height and reach disadvantage. Winner of six straight and undefeated in his adopted hometown, he’s excited to kick off this year’s first Ringside at Del Mar event in the spotlight. “I’m proud to be part of a main event for the first time in my professional career,” Espadas said. “I view each fight as another opportunity to grow and develop. My last fight was my first on national TV and now this. I’m looking forward to rising to the occasion.”

Matchmaker Jorge Marron has paired Espadas with the veteran Leal for a main event likely to play out like a tense game of chess should it go the distance. At face value, Leal’s resume of thirteen bouts wouldn’t ordinarily qualify him as battle tested. However, he’s earned the “Ram” ring alias through sheer tenacity exhibited both within and outside the ropes. A former national amateur champion whose professional career saw him rocket to an undefeated 7-0 start, the Nogales, Arizona resident has since had to overcome previous back and hand injuries and two previous three year periods of inactivity while rehabbing just in order to be ready to step back into the ring. Undeterred and still in his 20s, Leal insists now in taking on only quality competition at the risk of blemishing his record rather than pile up wins against inferior opponents.

The undercard is a flurry of five fast-paced four rounders, each bout featuring at least one contestant with a local connection. The talents of emerging knockout artist Manuel “The Deer” Ceballos (4-0, 3 KOs) will be on display in the light heavyweight semi-main event. The undefeated Ceballos, like Espadas, hails from Merida, Mexico. He thus far has fought exclusively as a professional in San Diego County, three of which at Del Mar. The only contest which hasn’t ended with him winning by knockout was his most recent appearance at the fairgrounds last summer against Jerome Buchanan, a four-round unanimous decision victory. He’ll face Ronald “Showtime” Mixon (2-0, 2 KOs) of Los Angeles. Fighting for the first time outside of Los Angeles in his young career, Mixon has summarily dispatched his two previous opponents with early round knockouts. He now takes a definite step up in competition facing Ceballos.

Rounding out the undercard will be undefeated North County welterweight Brian Nevarez (2-0) taking on Dauren Niyazbayev of San Diego by way of Kostanay, Kazakhstan, in his highly anticipated professional debut; undefeated featherweight sensation Roque “Rocky” Ramos (5-0-1; 2 KOs) of San Marcos vs. Raymond Chacon of Los Angeles; and in separate bouts South County bantamweight Jorge “Tito” Ruiz (7-2, 2 KOs) and undefeated light heavyweight Ulises Sierra (8-0-2, 5 KOs) of San Diego.

“We’re excited to be kicking off the 2015 Ringside at Del Mar boxing series with a bout sheet chocked full of up-and-coming pros with local ties to America’s Finest City,” states Andy Perez, President of A&T Boxing.
“Our five Ringside at Del Mar events last year included two nationally-televised co-promotions with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, the first Golden Boy Live! on FOX Sports1 events ever staged in San
Diego.” Perez continued, “As those events proved, we’re committed to bringing some of boxing’s top contenders to Del Mar. Our core philosophy, however, will be to continue to display local and developing talent on their way up the ranks so that we can say, ‘We saw them when…’” He concluded, “Styles make fights. We pride ourselves in the art of matchmaking, which is especially important for the fans when pitting young fighters against one another. We’re proud that Ringside at Del Mar has quickly developed a reputation for fast-paced, exciting bouts that win over both first-time and long-time fans of the Sweet Science.”

Ringside at Del Mar is sponsored by the renown boxing trainer Joel Diaz Training Camp and the 2015 San Diego County Fair. The Activity Center building’s doors at the Del Mar Fairgrounds open at 6pm. The first of six bouts begins at 7pm. Tickets start at $30 for General Admission. VIP Table tickets are $75. Tables can be reserved to accommodate up to ten fans. Select Apron tickets may be available upon request based on

Golden Boy Live! Returns to San Diego

Alan Sanchez Faces Off Against Ed Paredes, Thursday, December 4th On FOX Sports' Golden Boy Live! Boxing Telecast at the Del
Mar Fairgrounds

Del Mar, CA (November 25, 2014) - Welterweight standout Alan Sanchez (14-3, 8 KOs) will square off with veteran contender Ed Paredes (35-4, 23 KOs) in the 10-round featured event on Thursday, December 4th at the Del Mar Fairgrounds when Golden Boy Live! returns to San Diego in a special edition of the Ringside at Del Mar boxing series presented by A&T Gym. The event will be simulcast live nationally on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes.

In the 10-round junior featherweight co-main event, Manuel "Tino" Avila (16-0, 7 KOs) takes on Jose Luis Araiza (31-9, 22 KOs).

Local talent to be showcased on the undercard include San Diego prospects Elias Espadas (6-1, 3 KOs), Ulises Sierra (7-0, 2 KOs), Jorge Ruiz (6-2, 2 KOs) and Bryan Nevarez (1-0). National City native Adrian Vargas (11-0-1, 7 KOs) and Jonathan Quiroz (5-2, 1 KO) from Oceanside round out the lineup of rising stars. The undercard's combined professional record is an impressive 36-5-1 entering the December bouts.

"December Fourth will be a great night of boxing in Del Mar with an intriguing main event between Sanchez and Paredes, two skilled fighters with a lot on the line. In the co-main event, Tino Avila stands at an exciting point in his career -- when each successive victory could bring him closer and closer to a potential title shot," said Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions. "But with each step comes more dangerous challenges for him and by going up against a seasoned opponent who has stood in the ring and ably competed with the very best, Tino will need to dig deep to keep marching ahead."

Winner of nine of his last 10 bouts -- his only loss in that stretch coming via decision to former world champion Luis Collazo -- Fairfield's Alan Sanchez, 23, has been thrilling fans for years. Fresh off of back-to-back knockouts of Jorge Silva and Jose Luis Ramirez Jr. so far this year, Sanchez can make a statement with a third straight knockout victory when he faces Paredes.

Fighting out of Hollywood, FL, Ed Paredes has the power and experience to make it a rough night for Sanchez. Unbeaten in 15 of his last 16 bouts, the 29-year-old veteran believes that the best is yet to come for him. His sole focus is to now show the world by beating Sanchez in a highly-anticipated matchup.

Steadily moving toward the top 10 at 122 pounds, top prospect Manuel Avila has picked up the pace in 2014, defeating Enrique Quevedo, David De La Mora and Sergio Frias thus far. His goal is to close out the year with another big win that will catapult him toward a world title shot in 2015. With that in mind, the 22-year-old has the motivation to put on a career-best performance on December 4.

Winner of two of his last three bouts, veteran Jose Luis Araiza hopes to recover from a loss in September to Rau'shee Warren when he faces Avila at Del Mar. The former top prospect will enter the ring hoping to hand Avila his first professional defeat.

"We are very excited to wrap up the year at Ringside at Del Mar hosting another Golden Boy Live! event," stated Andy Perez, President of A&T GYM. "The five other shows we staged here were all exciting and we are closing the year with our strongest card to date. The partnership we have forged with Golden Boy Promotions has allowed us to bring to the Del Mar Fairgrounds some of boxing's top contenders alongside our local stars as they develop before our eyes. We look forward to continuing to stage great bouts that the San Diego County boxing fans have come to expect from us. Our goal is to have an even better Ringside at Del Mar series in 2015", concluded Perez.

Tickets for the December 4th Ringside at Del Mar event start at $29 and are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com, in person at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Box Office, or by calling (858) 792-4252.

This special Golden Boy Live! edition of the Ringside at Del Mar boxing series is presented by A&T Gym, Golden Boy Promotions, Don Chargin Productions, Paco Presents and is sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Mexico - Live It To Believe It!, 7UP, Joel Diaz Training Camp, and El Latino Newspaper. Promotional consideration is provided by Univision San Diego, Mighty 1090AM, FOX 5 San Diego, and KISS FM 95.7. Doors to the Bing Crosby Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds open at 5:30pm. The first bout begins at 6pm. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes broadcast airs live at 7pm PT/10pm ET.
