Neo Anime Oasis

Neo Anime Oasis Neo Anime Oasis is Idaho's Annual Neo-Generation Japanese Animation Convention. (Previously known as Anime Oasis from 2001-2021)
(431)

Anime Oasis takes place every Memorial Day Weekend at the Grove Hotel/CenturyLink Arena/Boise Centre in Boise Idaho.

10/23/2025

Hi there.
It's been over 2 years since we wrapped up our last convention and I wanted to let you know about a new anime project I've started.

First of all, let me be clear: This isn't convention related and I have no plans to ever get back into event planning. (If running cons from the time I was 23 until I was 45 wasn't enough, then I don't know what to tell you.)

Thank you to everyone who came out to Anime Oasis conventions through all those years.

__
Now that's out of the way:

This is the final post I'll ever make here.
Please read this as a Post-Time Skip / Epilogue post.

Last summer, I started to realize there wasn't as lot of anime stuff locally and started to vend anime goods at a few events (Japan Day, etc). Towards the end of this summer (2025), my daughter, Duplica, and I opened a dedicated anime shop in Nampa.

It's by no means a large shop, but packed full of anime goods. (Figures, Tapestries, Records/CDs/LDs).
We try to carry a wide selection including new and older series.

Creamy Anime

Nampa, ID 83651
Open 1-9pm, closed Tues

It's in the same building as the arcade I've had for the last 6 1/2 years. If you aren't aware of that: Jeremy's Downtown Arcade. $5 Admission for unlimited play. All the games that were at Anime Oasis were mine and are now at the arcade, including Japanese rhythm and driving games. Open Noon-11pm (Fri/Sat Noon-Midnight)

While I'm not doing big event anymore, I'm still working on things for people who love anime and Japanese stuff in general.

__
If you are wondering about the "Creamy" thing, here's the story.

Back in 2000, MSN was giving away $350 in Radio Shack credit for switching to their internet service.
So, I switched... but AOL wouldn't let you keep your username for instant messenger, so I needed a new username... which was a big deal back then.
BUT, all the good usernames were taken.
After spending an entire day trying to find a new username, I was standing in my living room.
I looked over at my bookshelf and there was the VCD set of Creamy Mami.
(Creamy Mami is a 1982 anime about a young girl who gets magical powers to turn into a teenage idol.)
First time she takes the stage, she is asked her name. Needing a fake name, she looked off to the left (like I just did) and thinks of her parents crepe business... and says her name is Creamy Mami.
Wow, that was just like my situation, so I went with in.
Now 25 years later... I still use it.

End back story
__

Well, that's about everything.
Again thanks to everyone who turned out over the years, thanks to those who helped, thanks to everyone who wished me harm... It's all good, convention time is intense.

Oh, one last thing:
At the final closing ceremonies, I said I was going to Hawaii instead of running a con the next year.
So, did I go to Hawaii in 2024? Heck no, I had way too much work to do.
In 2025, I thought about it, but it was cheaper to go to Okinawa, Japan, so I did that instead.

Convention set up is underway.

Countless hours of prep have all come down this.

A very limited amount tickets remain, be sure to purchase yours to avoid missing out.

Just 2 days to go!

Much has changed since the "good old days"... one of these is how conventions handle autographs.
Many, even most, conventions now are more than happy to pass all the costs of guest autographs and access onto attendees in addition to the cost of admission.
While there are some advantages to that system, it's always been my belief that it's the convention's responsibility to provide guest autographs and access as part of the base convention experience your purchase with your ticket.

So, here is important information you need to know to have the best experience at Neo Anime Oasis.

#1: You get an autograph punch card when you pick up your badges. Make sure you get one per person. Otherwise, this isn't going to work so well.

#2: Free autographs are limited to the scheduled autograph sessions. There's a limited amount based on time. This is how it always was... only so much time for signings.

#3: For a free autograph, you need to bring your own item. Bringing a cool item is even better. There's stuff that you cannot get signed during this time. Funko items are not eligible to be signed during free sessions. This isn't my rule, it's industry wide, most likely because of resale. Also, do not ask for autographs on bootleg items or items of adult nature.

#4: If you need additional autographs, autographs for Funko items, miss the free sessions; guests will be available for autographs at an additional cost at their table in the dealer's area.

#5: Guests are human. They will host panels, sign autographs, etc and may not be available for personal interaction at any given time. But, there may also be times where they are available for personal interaction. If you want to talk with them, ask nicely. Maybe say, "Hey, I am a fan. do you have a few minutes?". Many of our attendees have had great, friendly interactions with guests over the years. You could ask them to diner with you crew. It's happened before, helps if you're buying. Either way, respect their wishes.

#6: Everyone is here to have fun. Do not make their lives hard. Follow the rules.

Update on ticket sales.
We've reached the critical point where tickets are selling faster!!

Neo Anime Oasis:02 is coming up later this month.
You may or may not know that this is the final year. (you can read more on that on the website neoanimeoasis. com)

I wanted to take a moment before everything gets even more crazy in the final prep to thank those who have helped staff over the years.
Many 1000s of hours have been spent to put on Japanese Animation Conventions in Idaho.

It's all volunteer (even I do not get paid, despite some 10,000+ hours over 20+ years.) It's hard enough just surviving in Idaho, much less trying to turn a profit.

For us, creating a place for people who like Japanese Animation to enjoy content, guests, and meet others who like Japanese Animation is easily worth the time its taken out of our lives.

(picture: sorting the storage unit in the sun)

If you are wondering about the final schedule: It is getting done tonight... Things in my personally life (of which, I don't want to discuss here) have been brutal and have slowed down the process of finalizing everything.

Neo Anime Oasis:02 Guest Announcement
Jim Foronda

Jim Foronda is a Texas-based voice actor, freelance ad copywriter, and cyborg. In 2001, Jim was writing commercials for Hasbro Toys when a budget miscalculation on a G.I.Joe campaign ended up with him cast as Cobra Commander, Duke, Heavy Duty, and a British reporter— all in one commercial. After a year of being asked to play characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Mr. Potato Head in toy ads, he decided to pursue voice acting outside of his day job.

Juggling time between ad writing and voice work, Jim became a regular “pick up” player for Funimation, in shows like Dragon Ball Z, Case Closed, Panty & Stocking, Solty Rei, and more, along with supporting roles including Denny Bloch/Brosh in both runs of Fullmetal Alchemist and Marco Togni in Gunslinger Girl. Jim's first video game role was Jackal in Spikeout: Battle Street, which he regrettably-yet-fondly refers to as his “almost a Jill Sandwich” goofy game VO moment. He went on to voice Apophis, Hyena, and others in Unreal Championship 2, Janempa in a bunch of Dragon Ball games, and 20 different characters across the Borderlands franchise.

In an ironic flip of the actor’s proverb, Jim's day job quit him in 2013 when Hasbro changed ad agencies. Turning a layoff into an opportunity, he went to voice acting full-time. Since then, he’s voiced Muscular in My Hero Academia, Luxion in Trapped In A Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs, Poncho Panacotta in How A Realist Hero Rebuilt The Kingdom, Shisandan/Bui in Banished From The Hero's Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside, Kumasa in If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It To The Budokan I Would Die, HEUSC in The Millionaire Detective: Balance UNLIMITED, Frankenzombie in Sleepy Princess In The Demon Castle, Geld I/Orc Disaster in That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, Mato/King Toma in Fairy Tail, Vander Decken IX in One Piece, and more. He’s been in several games too, including over 10 characters in SMITE (like Rambo and TMNT’s Shredder!), Tom Banner in Killing Floor 2, and Oscar Mike, ISIC, Whiskey Foxtrot, and MINREC in Battleborn. And in 2019, was super-excited to take up the role of Claptrap, starting with Borderlands 3.

In his spare time, Jim likes photography, games of the video and tabletop variety, occasional trips to Japan, building LEGO stuff, and working on a novel that he will probably never, ever finish. He loves his wife, Karin, and their three cats Takkyubin, Momiji, and Ikaruga. He also wishes Japari Park was a real place. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 8 years old, Jim wears an insulin pump. By medical definition that totally makes him an actual, for real cyborg. He has yet to jump over a house or lift an automobile with his bare hands.
