Located on 80 scenic acres in Bloomington, the Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center features marble halls, stained glass, a 105-year-old ballroom, and a jewel box theatre. The rich history of Freemasonry began in the Middle Ages and is tightly interwoven with the history of the United States. presidents were Masons, as well as countless other public figures. Minnesota Masonry began over 160 years ago, and today Minnesota is home to 20,000 Masons and Order of the Eastern Star Members. Over the years, Masonry has greatly influenced Minnesota history and the lives of its residents, a legacy preserved by Minnesota Masonic Charities and the new Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center. The 47,000 SF Heritage Center serves as a working tribute to the concepts and contributions of Freemasonry and also as an intimate venue for performances, weddings, business meetings and other occasions.

Seen here is the fez worn by the sitting president of the Zuhrah Ladies Society in Minneapolis. While Freemasonry is considered a fraternity, many of its concordant bodies include women. The ZLS was organized in 1888 and its motto, TNGFMTBA (‘tis not good for man to be alone), was adopted at the society’s first meeting. Its main purpose was to “aid the sick and helpless”.

In 1857, Albert Pike printed the first draft of the degrees of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, for the Southern Jurisdiction of the USA. Only 100 copies were created, one of which is at the MMHC. Pike’s draft provided the basis for the modern-day ritual and, in 2017, the Supreme Council of the AASR, SJ reprinted it for historical study.
