We regret to announce that the Greater Bellingham Running Club has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s race. After careful consideration, we determined that we could not ensure participant safety due to high winds, particularly at the Samish Overlook.

At 4:43 AM, the National Weather Service extended their wind advisory for our area until 10 AM. Based on multiple weather models and forecasts, we expect strong winds to continue beyond that time, with a high likelihood of the advisory being extended further. Additionally, several trees and branches have already fallen along the road to Samish Overlook, reinforcing our decision.

THE 2022 BLANCHARD BEAST IS CANCELLED DUE TO AIR QUALITY

10/15 @ 5 AM UPDATE:

Racers & Volunteers,

Sadly the air quality and forecast did not improve overnight so we have made the unfortunate decision to cancel this year's race. AQI readings in the Alger area are, and have been, in the unhealthy range for the last few hours. Looking at the wind forecast and HRRR surface smoke projections for the next 12 hours it does not appear that Blanchard will improve much during that time. We are sorry for the inconvenience this has created and we appreciate your understanding knowing this decision was made keeping the health of our participants and volunteers in mind.

We still have 15 people on the waitlist and have been working through it as others let us know they cannot attend. If you cannot attend the race, please let us know as soon as you can.
