Thanks again to everyone that came out for the race! We will get results completed as soon as we can. It turned out to be an outstanding day and some of you even liked the loop…haha. We love putting on these races on and hope you enjoyed yourself as well

Email just went out to remind runners that even with the pavement change, the actual race location remains the same.

This is an "artist rendition" with poor mouse drawing skills. Upper right is the parking lot, with the small circle on that side being the pavilion with aid station and finish line.

The loop will be just over a mile, except for the start and finish laps, which will be shorter by design (nothing you need to do, it's just the locations). The 10k and Half will be a little heavy, but pretty much the same distance as when we run it on trail.

5k - 3 loops
10k - 6 loops
Half - 12 loops

Hey runners - we’re still on the move, so I can’t do an email yet, but here’s what’s going to happen tomorrow.

To clarify, the race is still at the same park, we will just be staying on the pavement. Many thanks to my beautiful wife Bobbie for all the work to get us a viable workaround.

We have a 1.xx loop on all pavement, so it will be 3,6 and 12 loops for the races. The 10k and Half will be a little heavy, but that’s exactly how it would have been with the trail.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow! Or tonight if you’re coming to Peak Performance - The Running Store to grab your packet!

Originally, I was going to make a post on the history of Hilly Goat and its origin as "What The Hill" so when you saw the GOAT in a Grim Reaper costume on the shirt and finish award it would make sense. Little did I know that tonight's downpour (still raining as of 8:30pm) would put a heavy dose of irony on the reference. To cut to the chase, we will not ruin trails and tear up the park as the GOATz as a group will always do our best to be stewards of the trails. The positive spin is that you will get to experience roughly what the original race was all about - a very small loop on pavement. We will work to maximize the space as much as possible, but this is just unavoidable.
NOTE: Edit to add - race is still at the Black Elk in Blair per previous race email.

So, if you're still with me, here's how the race came about.

A few of the OG GOATz used to do a .55 pavement loop at Schramm Park that basically went up hill and then downhill, with only a short straight away to connect them. In short order this became a King Of The Hill contest between everyone. If you were part of that group, or know how twisted our thinking is, you'll understand it wasn't long until we decided this needed to be a Half Marathon. Yes, on a .55 loop. At one point, our buddy Van showed up in a Grim Reaper costume to "encourage" everyone running the race. When Schramm had a lot of construction going on, we were unable to have the race and moved it to Blair. We thought with the venue change, we also needed a name change and held a contest, which Jacob Brown won and the race became Hilly Goat.

So there's the history, and the un-intended tie in to the original race.

Don't forget - early packet pickup at Peak Performance Cass St location as well!

The race guide email just went out and you'll have it shortly. I'm going on heavy repeat for this and I'll use the "yelling" all caps, but THIS IS A CUPLESS RACE. You will need to bring your own hydration bottle/flask/pack! Please remember to bring something with you.

One thing that is in the guide that I want to make extra sure you all read:

THIS IS A CUPLESS race. Please bring your own bottle/flask/hydration pack for fluid, as there will be no cups at the race! It's August and you all need that hydration - don't forget!

Hey Runners -
We're going to try something new this year for Hilly Goat! We know there are a number of you from the...uhhh....(G)reater (O)maha) (A)rea that are (T)rail Runner(Z) and we want to offer you a Friday packet pickup.

Tim and the crew at Peak Performance - The Running Store have welcomed us to the Cass St location to host packet pickup from 3-6pm on Friday the 25th. Come in, check things out and pick up any last-minute running goodies while getting your race packet.

The race is sneaking up on us, but you still have a couple of weeks to register. The first timers at the race can't believe what they've been missing at Black Elk Park Trail!
