Homefield Farm at Virginia Tech

Homefield Farm at Virginia Tech Homefield Farm is Virginia Tech's 12-acre student-driven farm, 8 miles from campus. It supplies 45,000lbs of produce to dining yearly.

Experiential farming environment for volunteers & students. Collaborative effort between Dining Services, CALS, & SPES. Here’s your chance to be a part of Virginia Tech’s agricultural influence–even if you’re not in the College of Agriculture. Forging a connection with your food is an important one to make, so we are providing opportunities for you to do just that at the Dining Services Garden. Th

e Dining Services Garden is three acres of diverse vegetable and fruit production at VT’s research farm Kentland. The garden is providing local, organic produce to the Dining Centers. We need your help to harvest, plant, cultivate, and nurture all the vegetables that we are growing. You will have the farm to fork experience, seeing the process of vegetable growing from seed to plant to plate. Come learn about gardening and give us a hand growing the food that you and your Hokie community eat in Virginia Tech’s dining centers. For our wonderful volunteers:
As with other farm work, gardening is dirty. Wear clothes that you find appropriate to get muddy, dirty, or otherwise. Solid, closed-toed footwear is preferred. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and water to stay cool and hydrated. Pay attention to announcement emails in case certain activities require certain clothing choices (i.e wearing long sleeves to harvest zucchini). Projects vary, as does the type of vegetable or herbs being harvested, planted and tended. Thank you for visiting the page. Please leave any comments, questions, concerns, or anything else you would like on the wall. To contact someone directly email [email protected] and we'll get back in touch with you as soon as possible.

Checkout our Assistant Farm Manager, Courtney, one of our seasonal workers, Reagan, and the sprouts they've helped grow this season! These sprouts are located in one of the SPES Greenhouses on Virginia Tech's campus, which has around 43,000 square feet of greenhouse space that we are lucky to have access to!🪴
