Fun to share this beautiful morning with a few members of the Swannanoa Valley Art League who came out to paint the Barns as part of their regular workshops! Carrying on a long tradition of art being studied and created at Lake Eden.

One of the sweetest parts of weddings days is often that brief period, once the ceremony, vows and applause is done, and after gathering the families and wedding party for group photos when we are able to offer the couple and their photographer a cart ride around to some of the signature spots on the property. Just a brief time to take it all in and capture some private moments before arriving to the reception for a night of dinner, dancing and celebration.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful way to begin the 2026 wedding season than we had this weekend. Such a lovely group of folks, both those who had been coming to Lake Eden for years as part of events and many more visiting for their first time. After a touching and heartfelt ceremony everyone headed up to the Barn for cocktail hour and reception. Of course, once dinner was over the dancing began and so many smiles were seen!

Any time we’ve been entrusted with hosting a celebration of life, there is inevitably a certain bittersweetness mixed with a strong sense of responsibility. Even more so when the life celebrated was too short, and deepened when we learn more about their long connection to this place.
So when a family accepts our offer to plant a tree on the grounds in honor of their loved one, celebrating life with life, the planting is taken with all due seriousness. We look forward to watching, nurturing, and sharing the story of this Goldenchain tree in honor of Jon Orr for many years to come.

With just 11 days remaining before the Barn officially opens up for the 2026 season, we just had to take a break from our many final projects to appreciate the magic of Spring taking hold. The animals certainly feel it as we’ve been seeing turkey, deer and of course our local resident bears making their rounds recently. At least the beauty distracts from the knowledge that pollen and grass mowing time is here! We wouldn’t have it any other way though. Bring on the Spring and bring on the events!

As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, we look back on the history of American art. Rather than presenting a single master narrative about this country of many cultures and contradictions, we invited esteemed contributors to write the history of American art through some of the terms that defined it, arranged from A to Z.

B, Eva Díaz writes, stands for “Black Mountain College.” The college, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina, from 1933 to 1957, “endures in the small but exceptional canon of profoundly unconventional places in America, sites in the cultural imagination where radical artistic innovation and vanguard social communitarianism fostered alternative visions of what creative, progressive, democratic culture can be,” Díaz writes.

This time of year tends to be much quieter event-wise out here as we focus on annual maintenance and upgrades. So it was nice to open up Mountain Stream Lodge to the board and staff of the non-profit Buncombe County Rescue Squad and host their board strategic planning session along with a thank you dinner for the crew members. Organizations like this make our community safer and stronger and we are proud to be a supporter of their work.

As we head into this Thanksgiving and guests are arriving each day to celebrate with friends and family treating Lake Eden as their home away home, we’re feeling grateful for many things. Especially that we were able to host some beautiful events and groups this year, including this final wedding of the season on a gorgeous November 1st.
Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

To finish out the 2025 wedding season it just seems appropriate that we’re hosting a local couple whose celebration had to be postponed last Fall. Friday night, friends and family enjoyed a lovely rehearsal dinner at Mountain Stream Lodge while fully embracing the Halloween theme in costume! Today it will be an outdoor ceremony followed by a Barn reception and a bonfire. Perfect way to close out in style.
