Happy Labor Day! This post was originally written for our participants - and we know many of you will see this AND we wanted to share this with the community so you can see what to expect!
Parking - limited parking is available at the Elementary School and if it is full you can park on surface streets, leaving space for driveways or over at the community gymnasium (25511 Lawson Avenue) where you can park and walk to Lawson Street, cross highway 169 and proceed to the check in station. Highway 169 CLOSES at 9:30am so please instruct your people to be in town and parking no later than 9:15am.
Check-In 9:00-9:30am Located at the corner of Baker Street and Second Avenue in front of the old fire station and across the street from the Elementary School.
One person from each group will pick up their number/parade assignment and sign the hold harmless agreement for the entire group. If you have a vehicle/float the driver can wait with it on Baker Street while we get you your information and signature.
Once checked in you will be directed South on Second Avenue to a Volunteer who will give you your staging spot (matches your parade entry number) that will be clearly marked on the street. Please line up in your number - mixing up the order makes it hard for our parade announcer
As staging is in a residential neighborhood please be respectful and keep driveways clear.
Parade 10:00am The parade begins at 10am and travels from Lawson Street to Park Avenue in Black Diamond (this is where the school ball field is located and all the vendors and activities will be occurring).
A volunteer will start sending entries off just after 10am - as the line starts moving just follow along. For those of you staged on the West side of Second Avenue you will proceed forward and turn around at the end of Second Avenue and come back towards Gomer Evans Drive to start the route.
When the VFW reaches the judges stand the parade will pause for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner and then will resume once the flag is raised. BE PATIENT and respectful.
When you reach the judges stand the description of your entry will be read by our announcer and you might want to pause there if you have a routine you are doing or just want to cheer and have some fun.
Parade Route The route is relatively short and the parade watchers will be on the sidewalks along Hwy 169. The route ends at Park Street which is at the Black Diamond Elementary School Ball Field. Any vehicles being driven in the parade will need to find parking on surface streets as there is NO parade parking on the ball field.
Judging We have a team of community members who will be our judging panel - who will be judging in the 4 categories of Youth Group/Club, Music/Band, Vehicle Float, or Novelty. Parade category winners will be announced on the Main Stage at the Ball Field at 12:00pm.
After the Parade There is so much fun to be had! Over 50 vendors, food truck options, live entertainment, bouncy houses for kids and field games for the entire family.
