United Tribes Legends Softball Tournament

With deep sadness, the United Tribes Technical College, acknowledges the passing of our dear friend and brother, Austin Cooper Kirkie.

Coop as we called him, will always hold a special place in our hearts — a true legend known across the basketball and softball trails. His presence lit up every tournament, including those held right here on our UTTC campus.

Coop was a strong advocate for our youth, always willing to share his wisdom and knowledge to help prepare them for life’s challenges. His message to all of us was one of love, prayer, and peace.

Coop’s memory will continue to live on through the many lives he touched, both on and off the playing field.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kirkie family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

The UTTC Legends Softball Committee would like to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family of Dan Marlowe.

Dan was inducted into the UTTC Legends Hall of Fame twice — as an individual inductee in 2024 and as a member of the Minnesota Chipps Softball Team in 2022. He had a true Hall of Fame career, winning numerous championships and earning the respect of players and fans wherever he played.

Dan will be deeply missed around all the ball fields, especially here at the UTTC Legends Tournament. Thank you, Dan, for the great memories, your sportsmanship, and your lasting impact on the game.

Travel well, Hall of Famer — we’ll see you again.

This year’s Opening Ceremony was truly unforgettable. From the Grand Entry, to the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, to crowning the first-ever Battle of Nations Champions… every moment was filled with meaning. We remembered our relatives who have made their journey to the Star Nation, and we honored those who have found great success throughout their careers.

This year’s ceremony had it all—culture, love, tears, emotion, pride, laughter, and unity. There was no other place we would have rather been than right there in that moment. It was so, so very special.

A huge thank you to Leksi Everette “Butch” Felix, Jackie Bird, JC Crawford, Ken Many Wounds, Hall of Famers, Jeff Smith, Nolan Desjarlait, Wenelle Clown, Lady Wokiksuye, Tongue River, Michelle Thunderhawk and family, Barry Webster and family, Maria Kirkie-Provost and family, Henry Harper and family, True Clown and family, and Slough Foot singers for leading us in. We are so grateful for each of you and for everyone who helped make this Opening Ceremony one to remember. We send all our love and prayers to you and your families.
