Andrea Mathis, MA, RDN, LD is an Alabama-based registered dietitian nutritionist and owner of the nourishing food blogs, Beautiful Eats & Things, and Little Eats & Things.

FAFL is a nonprofit based in Birmingham on a mission to enhance the mental wellness of youth via expressive arts and education. In addition to collaborative arts experiences, they provide scholarship opportunities for college to young people pursuing the arts.

As a part of the KidsZone, FAFL will provide interactive activities on Saturday to inspire, and enhance kid’s creativity and imagination. FAFL Drama Instructor, Christi Joy, will facilitate a dance portion. You won’t want to miss it!

Meet The Sponsor: Rebirth Community Corporation (RCC)

RCC – is a 501c3 Nonprofit that improves the lives of at-risk disadvantaged minority individuals and families in the City of Birmingham Alabama and its surrounding areas.

In partnership with the Alabama Court System, Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department, Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, Mental Health Counselors, HR Professionals, Local Businesses, Schools, and other Nonprofits, RCC has facilitated home buying seminars, financial literacy workshops, entrepreneur coaching networks, student, and family counseling services.

Since there inception in 2015, RCC has served nearly 400 at-risk disadvantaged minority individuals and families.

With support from an Alabama Power Foundation seed grant, and strategic alliances through the IGNITE! Alabama Coalition, RCC is launching the “REBOOT: Rebuilding Better” Mental Health and Emotional Wellness program to ensure Alabama’s Educators and most vulnerable minority populations (Small Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, Nonprofit Leaders, Incarcerated Individuals and/or Ex-Offenders) regain the emotional stability that the COVID-19 pandemic has stolen. Did you know that when you purchase a ticket to the Magic City Fried Chicken Festival a portion of the proceeds go to support Community Action in Social and Economic Development (C.A.S.E.D.)?

C.A.S.E.D. is a 501(c) 3 which provides educational services, summer camp, and after-school care for Greater Birmingham inner-city youth. These critical services provide low-income families with access to resources that help students improve academically, enhance their performance and build confidence.

This year, C.A.S.E.D. plans to expand it’s programming to include pre-k services as well.

So when you come out next Saturday, not only will you be celebrating the classic southern dish, but we’ll be celebrating together with a purpose! See you there! There’s still time to purchase your ticket at the link in bio.

Meet the Competition: Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken

Their name says it all. World Famous. Gus’s fried chicken has won a number of awards year after year including Best Fried Chicken, Experts Choice Award, and has been named on Best Fried Chicken in America and Top 100 Places to Eat in the US lists. And rightfully so. Gus’s began in a small town in Mason, Tennessee out of a love for fried chicken and uniting communities. A family recipe passed down from generation to generation and perfected for over 60 years, is now the Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken experience that we know and love.

Now they’re ready to take claim to one more title - the Best Fried Chicken in the Magic City! Gus’s has been bringing their world famous, fried to perfection goodness to the Birmingham area since 2019 and have 34 locations across the U.S.
