Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend

Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend A family friendly outdoor event with something for everyone! Join us on August 2,3,4, 2019 for a great weekend of fun and education!

04/23/2020

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that the Second Annual Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend is canceled.

We did not make this decision lightly. But after consulting with our Sponsors, we have decided that it is best to cancel this years event and start up even bigger and better in 2021.

We all hope that by mid summer this Corona Virus is no longer a problem, but the sad truth is, we have to make decisions NOW. There are advertising deadlines, travel plans, and other personal and financial considerations--not just for us, but also for our Dealers and Guests. We simply can not wait another couple of months to make a decision.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us, and we hope that you will all continue to be healthy and will join us again in 2021!

We are pleased to announce that we have teamed up with S.P. Rankin Maine Fur Buyer And Trapping Supplies to make the Second Annual Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend even bigger and better than the first one! And thanks to Sponsors like Deer Meadow Kangals and The Trapper's Post Magazine, we are going to have a great event!

Here is our first event flyer. I will have hard copies back from the Printer by the end of the week, and we will be handing them out at the Augusta Armory on February 22 and 23 at The Ancient Ones Outdoor Sports And Gun Show. Steph and I will have a booth there. Stop by and see us!

Please spread the word! We still have Dealer space available in the field, and tailgate sales are encouraged and included in your entry fee!

If you want to print your own copy of this flyer, or share it further, I can email you a PDF file.

This years event was great, and 2020 will be even better!

Everyone loved the First Ever Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend, and we are all looking forward to the Second Annual Event next year! Dates are JULY 31, AUGUST 1, 2, 2020!

We are already lining up Sponsors and additional Dealers for next years event!

S.P. Rankin Maine Fur Buyer And Trapping Supplies [the guy with the hand made basswood fur stretchers and that really cool new bear trap!], as well as Bob Noonan at The Trappers Post Magazine, have both signed on again as Sponsors to help us with advertising!

Deer Meadow Kangals [the folks with the amazing dogs!], have signed on to Sponsor our kids Eel Race and Coin Scramble!

Jerry Braley will be back to run the Eel Race!

We are currently actively seeking more sponsors [this is an expensive event to run] and more dealers and tailgate vendors for next year.

We are also working on filling up the Demo list with a wide variety of interesting demonstrations and talks.

This is a true family event, with something for everyone!

If you would like to be part of the event in 2020, please let us know!

More details will be posted as we move forward!

Steph and I went over to Neil Olson's 43rd Annual New England Trapper's Weekend in Bethel, Maine yesterday. We had a great time talking to old friends and meeting new ones.

Steph got some great pictures. The kids eel race and coin scramble are always fun!

I had a nice talk with Neil and he said that he liked our ideas for incorporating different, non trapping demos in to our event. Everyone agrees that we need to do more to bring new people in to our way of life. We need to get the next generation involved! That is what our Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend is all about! If we all work together, we can make things bigger and better for everyone!

We are happy to announce that one of our close friends and favorite Vendors, Deer Meadow Kangals, has offered to sponsor the kids eel race and coin scramble next year at the Kennebec Valley Sportsman's Weekend. We also have S.P. Rankin Maine Fur Buyer and Trapping Supplies, and Bob Noonan at The Trapper's Post Magazine back on board to sponsor much of our advertising for next year!

We picked up two new Vendors this weekend. Brian Maxham, of Max-traps ice fishing traps will be with us next year, and will also be doing a Demo for us.

Robert and Rose Libby, of Peru, Maine, who are well known for their wooden crafts and games, as well as their pickles, sausages, eggs, jams, etc., will also be on Vendor's Row!

Several of the tailgate vendors who are regulars at Neil's event are also excited to start coming to Fletcher Mountain!

It looks like next year is going to be even bigger and better!

We had a great weekend up here on Fletcher Mountain!

We had great Vendors, great Demonstrators, and great folks camping and coming through the gate! I have never seen people so interested and involved at a Demo tent. Folks were literally taking notes and asking questions even after the demos were over. That says a lot about the quality of our volunteer demonstrators!

The kids eel race and coin scramble were a hit with children and adults alike, and the auction was a lot of fun!

From the folks who helped me with set up and take down, to the gate crew, and the Sponsors that helped with advertising, we had wonderful help every step of the way!

Steph and I really enjoyed having everyone up here.

Everyone told us that they had a great time, and that they are looking forward to next year.

This event takes a lot of time and money to put on. This one was paid for out of our own pockets. Being self employed in the back woods of Maine, our pockets are not that deep! So, if next years event is going to be even bigger and better, we need to look for a little more help. We have already had offers of sponsorship from individuals and small businesses, but the more folks who get on board, the better we can make this event for everyone. If you are interested in helping out with next years event, please let me know!

We are looking for ways to get more people and clubs involved in this event. If you have ideas, we would love to hear them! We are also looking for ideas [and volunteers] for a wide variety of interesting demonstrations. Keep those ideas coming!

It is still in the early planning stages, but we hope that we can do it again next year, and make this weekend one of the premier family events of the summer!
