It is with deep sorrow that we share the unexpected loss of Susan St. Cyr, a Founding Member of the Billerica Holiday Festival and a current Board member. Susan was part of the original team 28 years ago, alongside six other passionate community members, who founded the Billerica Holiday Festival. What began as a small, seven-member group with one event has grown in to a successful, local non-profit organization with a 21-member Board of Directors and four large scale events. She was there for it all!
As the main coordinator of our Home for the Holidays Display and Raffle, she expertly oversaw all aspects of the Display portion of that event. With over 100 items in the Display each year, she had an incredible ability to remember all donor names, themes, and item locations. She knew where every basket or tree was, who donated it, and what was in or on it. It was remarkable. The effort she put in behind the scenes to bring joy to so many is beyond measure. Her impact and dedication won't soon be forgotten.
The only thing equal to her dedication and kindness was her humility. She never wanted or accepted accolades or recognition for her effort. Even when the Board decided to honor our Founding Members with a ceremonial switch throw at our 25th Anniversary Tree Lighting, she chose to step back from the stage, saying, as she often did: "everyone does their part."
We will profoundly miss our friend Susan. We aspire to continue our work in a way that honors her and her remarkable legacy.
