Hermosa Beach just got a massive upgrade! Kristina Farberman and I stopped by the soft opening of Kasai Records on Hermosa Ave, and we were absolutely blown away. The space used to be a restaurant called Decadence, but the owner, Skylar, completely revamped it, and the top-to-bottom makeover is a total win.
The Vibe & Ambiance:
The atmosphere here is a 10/10. They have the front doors wide open so you get that perfect, fresh ocean breeze rolling right in. Skyler designed the interior to feel like an upscale, old-school record shop. The walls are lined with actual vintage vinyl records, and there is a dedicated DJ booth in the back where a live DJ spins real vinyl. It gives the whole place this incredibly cool, upbeat, and immaculate energy.
Sports & Entertainment:
Despite the trendy music-centric aesthetic, it secretly doubles as an elite sports bar. The room is outfitted with FIVE massive 90-inch TVs—two right over the bar and three on the opposite wall. We happened to be there during a FIFA World Cup match and watched Mexico pull off a win. The energy in the room was electric. If you are looking for a spot to watch any of the upcoming matches, look no further.
The Food:
The star of the menu here is undoubtedly the skewers, which are cooked on a traditional yakitori grill. You have to try them! We ordered a huge spread:
Steak Skewer: Perfectly tender and flavorful.
Jerk Chicken Skewer: Great char and just the right amount of spice.
Garlic Shrimp Skewer: Super savory and rich.
Salmon Yakitori Skewer: Melt-in-your-mouth good with a perfect glaze.
We also split the Spicy Chicken Katsu Sandwich (crispy with a great kick) and ordered a few rounds of the Kasai Frites because they are dangerously addictive.
The Drinks:
The drink menu pairs perfectly with the savory menu. We had glasses of the Frank Family Chardonnay, a Rose City Pressing, and a local Hermosa Beach IPA.
Overall:
Kasai Records hits all the right notes—great music, open-air vibes, incredible food, and a perfect setup for watching sports. They are currently in their soft opening phase with a Grand Opening planned for July. Get in here before the rest of the South Bay catches on because this place is going to be packed!
