The Catskills Fiber Festival
Its the First Annual Catskills Fiber Festival. September 15th is a perfect day to host this event. Still warm enough from summer with just a touch of cool autumn breezes. Pockets of fall colors will highlight landscapes dotted with farm animals and tractors. Apples, mums and early pumpkins will appear on the country road byways.
Enjoy the warmth of the Catskill Distillery and Saloon, while shopping at our vendors, and enjoying an afternoon of music. Take a selfie with alpacas, sheep and angora bunnies. There will be lots of demonstrations from needle felting, peg looms, floor looms, drop spindling and spinning. Get some one-on-one time to talk to the experts.
And there is enough for everyone to enjoy. Come for the weekend! Enjoy all the fabulous things to do in the area. We will be adding in places to stay and places to visit. Catskill Distillery is across the street from the entrance to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the home of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. It is minutes away from the new Resort Worlds Casino.
The festival will be showcasing the many fiber farms, fiber enthusiasts and makers in the area. New York is well known for its dairy farms, but it also has some terrific sheep, goat, llama and alpaca farms. And of course the farms that have a menagerie of chosen animals. The area is home to fabulous weavers, spinners, knitters, felters, quilters, and designers. Locals already know the Hurlyeville Makers Lab, the Woodland Spinners and Weavers, the Rosehaven Mill in Bethel, Duke Pottery and the fiber farms. The Sullivan Catskills has always been a wealth of creative innovative people!
