Hey Peeps hope to see you at Ashkenaz this Saturday for a rare FREE event. It is such an honor for me, not only to be playing at a Memorial for my great old friend and Co-Creator of Afrobeat, Joni Haastrup, but to be doing so with some of the greatest African musicians in the world! Our Leader this night is none other than Baba Ken Okulolo, who wrote many of the Mono Mono Decca record hits alongside Johnny Haastrup. People at our side include Sai Soji Odukogbe, former lead guitarist with FELA. Ronald Van Lewarde, One of the Bay Area masters of African music will be on vocals and guitar as well as many, other great artists. My longtime Ensemble - Oya Wima - will be presenting songs from the Yoruba Orisha tradition. Come at 6:30 for the meet and greet, music starts more like eight. Join us as we salute this great musician and wonderful human being Prince Joni Haastrup!
