THE NEXT EVENT is “sold out”: Film screening in English at the Orly Museum on March 14 at 2:30 PM have already been reserved. We will show the film again on April 11.
Angol nyelvű filmvetítés az Örly Múzeum palettáján március 14-én, 2:30-tól. A helyek egy nap alatt beteltek, ezért április 11-én a vetítést megismételjük.

Piano Rivals is the working title of a documentary about the two leading pianists and piano composers in Europe during the romantic era, Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. Piano Rivals will tell the story of two composers from small countries in the middle of Europe, squeezed between much more powerful countries and their interests. Both Chopin and Liszt associated strongly with their nations. Born only a year apart, both composers became symbols for their countries and their fight for independence.
The Museum will be open from 2 to 4 on Saturday, March 14, 2026 with the film being shown from 2:30 to 3:30

We are grateful for the extraordinary interest that accompanied our latest museum event. At a full-house gathering filled with curiosity and vibrant discussion, visual artist Bernadett Szilvásy delivered a captivating lecture on the artistic legacy of Herend. With professional insight and personal enthusiasm, she guided the audience through the history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of the world-renowned porcelain manufactory. The evening brought together researchers, art lovers, community members, and many first-time visitors. The atmosphere was warm, intellectually engaging, and genuinely celebratory — a true testament to the enduring appeal of Hungarian cultural heritage.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the success of this inspiring event. We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming programs!

Hálásak vagyunk azért a rendkívüli érdeklődésért, amely legutóbbi múzeumi eseményünket kísérte.
Teltházas előadás keretében, élénk érdeklődéssel és tartalmas beszélgetésekkel kísérve tartott előadást Szilvásy Bernadett képzőművész a herendi porcelán művészi örökségéről. Szakmai igényességgel és személyes lelkesedéssel vezette végig a közönséget a világhírű porcelánmanufaktúra történetén, mesterségbeli hagyományain és kulturális jelentőségén.
Az est kutatókat, művészetkedvelőket, közösségi tagokat és számos új érdeklődőt is összehozott. A hangulat meleg, inspiráló és szellemi értelemben is gazdag volt – méltó bizonyítéka annak, hogy a magyar kulturális örökség ma is élő és megszólító erő.

Nagy érdeklődés mellett zajlott le a 2026-os évad első előadása az Örly Múzeumban, amely a kortárs magyar színház aktuális folyamatait, dilemmáit és irányait állította a középpontba.

Az est során számos fontos kérdés merült fel:
– Hogyan reagál a színház a társadalmi és politikai változásokra?
– Milyen szerepe van ma a művészi szabadságnak?
– Hol húzódnak a határok tradíció és kísérletezés között?

A gondolatébresztő beszélgetés és az aktív közönségvisszajelzések ismét megerősítették: a magyar színház élő, vitázó és releváns művészeti tér.

Köszönjük az előadást Patkó Éva Fulbright-ösztöndíjas előadónknak, valamint a résztvevőknek az élénk és inspiráló jelenlétet.

The opening lecture of the 2026 season at the Orly Museum attracted strong interest and sparked a lively discussion on the state of contemporary Hungarian theatre.

The evening raised a number of timely and thought-provoking questions:
– How does theatre respond to social and political change today?
– What is the role of artistic freedom in the current cultural landscape?
– Where do tradition and experimentation meet—or collide?

The engaged audience and rich dialogue once again confirmed that Hungarian theatre remains a vibrant, reflective, and socially relevant art form.

As the holidays approach and we reflect on the year, we want to express our thanks for your support: every visit to the museum and our website; every donation of money or items; every kind message. We thank you.

We embarked on a mission to celebrate and preserve the rich heritage of Hungary. Founded in 2019 by Ilona Orly Magyary and Elvira Orly Machell, along with their husbands Andrew Magyary and Philip Machell, our family-run museum stands as a testament to the beauty and significance of Hungarian art and history.

Our founders, driven by a deep passion for sharing their family's collection of Hungarian treasures, made a pivotal decision to create a space where these magnificent Hungarian porcelains, paintings, textiles, and historical artifacts could be appreciated by all. This led to the creation of the Orly Museum of Hungarian Culture at 1720 Arch Street, Berkeley, California, within the Orly Family home.

The Orly Museum of Hungarian Culture is more than a repository of artifacts. It is a vibrant space where Hungarian history comes to life through exhibitions, guided tours, musical events, book readings, films, lectures, and cultural experiences suitable for all ages and backgrounds. Our website and page serve as gateways to explore the richness of our collections and upcoming events.

We have received inquiries about the future of the museum beyond the lifetime of our founders. Will the Museum exist after the founders are no longer alive? The answer is a resounding "YES," with your support we can ensure the continuation of this vital cultural institution.

We know that costs are rising everywhere, so we are grateful for every donation, since our operating costs are also rising and it is through many small gifts that we keep the lights on and events coming. If you would like to help, please:

What a wonderful afternoon at the Orly Museum of Hungarian Culture! Our latest event drew a full house — more than 90 guests joined us for an inspiring and heartwarming gathering.
Guests who made a reservation received complimentary pastry samples, including Chocolate Hazelnut Torte and Belli Tante Apple Torte, both of which were a hit! 🍰

A big thank-you to everyone who came, helped, and shared the experience — you made this event truly special. 💛

A könyv több mint receptgyűjtemény: egy rendkívüli, kontinenseket és generációkat összekötő történet a magyar örökségről, a kitartásról és az édes hagyományokról.

Szabó Ella a magyar forradalom idején, 1956-ban menekült el hazájából, és sosem gondolta volna, hogy évekkel később az 1960-as amerikai olimpiai szinkronúszó-bemutató csapat tagja, elismert cukrász és egy magyar desszerteket bemutató könyv szerzője lesz. Egy véletlen találkozás egy másik magyar emigránssal Connecticutban örökre megváltoztatta az életét: Ella egy felbecsülhetetlen értékű, örökölt receptgyűjtemény gondozójává vált – olyan recepteké, melyek a második világháború alatt majdnem elvesztek, de csodával határos módon fennmaradtak.
