If you grew up in the '70s, this image is instantly familiar to you. If you didn't ... well, you've got to see this animation classic. Watership Down follows a warren of rabbits as they look for a new home. Based on Richard Adams' 1972 novel of the same name, Watership Down boasted some big name voice actors including John Hurt and Joss Ackland (you might remember him as the villain in Lethal Weapon 2), as well as Zero Mostel in his last film role.
Watership Down ultimately would be a financial success after its 1978 release, but it initially played in just five London cinemas because marketers couldn't decide if it was a movie for adults or for kids. Indeed, its subject matter is pretty heavy--life and death, beauty and suffering--and kids will definitely have questions.
Through the years, critics have argued with each other over Watership Down's merits, but its fans haven't wavered.
Come see it tonight at the Bellows Falls Opera House at 7 pm.
