Cedar Lane Holiday Light Show Fundraiser
In 2012 I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. In thinking about ways to help find a cure, I decided to create a Christmas light show to raise money for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) to support the research for all people with Type 1 Diabetes both young and old. Proceeds from my show will be donated to support the cure for this disease that I, and unfortunately so many others like me face, each day. Currently there are over 50 human clinical trials going on and others ready to go and just awaiting more funding.
If you are unfamiliar with T1D, it's when a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. The daily life of someone with T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, disruptive glucose monitoring, sleepless nights—and wishing for a tomorrow where this struggle doesn’t exist.
As I am getting older, what has been specifically on my mind is how fortunate I am to have the support of my families health insurance (for now), but I worry about the thousands of people with T1D (as well as myself in the near future) that don't have good health benefits as I know they'll need our help. To put this into perspective, about 10 years ago, 1 vial of insulin would costs ~$75, that same vial today would cost over $275, which is about a weeks' worth. You could read more about this here: (http://www.businessinsider.com/insulin-price-increased-last-decade-chart-2019-9) With all of this said, I am fundraising for JDRF because I believe in their vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). Your generosity will help JDRF fund life-changing breakthroughs to remove the incredible daily burden of this disease—until it no longer exists! Living with T1D means there are no days off and currently there is no cure, But that doesn't take away my hope and dream.
So please come out, however you can and support my fundraiser by making a donation today. Thank you and God Bless!
