Muzzleloader Jams at the most inopportune moment - TenPoint Crossbow to the Rescue!!!
My muzzleloader jammed today. It was a
really sad, sad situation. It was sunset and two big bucks were walking slowly and
both headed right up a trail that would see both pass my tree stand. One was definitely a wide beam Ten Point and the other a Big Eight.
.. when they both passed through all the vegetation and were in the clearing my field of view and their location flanked to my direct front made this the best opportunity I have ever had in my hunting life. So I raised my muzzleloader while at the same time pulling back the hammer. But the hammer was not coming all the way back to the "Ready to Shoot” position. I tried using both thumbs on both hands to get the hammer back and locked in place to shoot. But no luck. So I did some hasty field expedient Troubleshooting.
I reckoned that the root cause of the jamming could either be a bad lot Cap, or that I did not use enough force to lock the breech shut in the “Ready to Fire” position or that this muzzleloader has an inherent design flaw or manufacturing mistake. I could not do anything during the final minutes of my hunt today to fix design issues or manufacturing mistakes. So I did the only thing I was capable of under those circumstances. I put a new Cap in the breech and slammed it shut. This resulted in the hammer more easily pulling all the way back into the ready to fire position.
But, the two Bucks never slowed down, they just kept moving right out of my field of view, the sky kept getting darker, and there was nothing more I could do but pack up and make my way out of the woods quietly and disturbing as little as possible.
It is predicted that it will be raining hard tomorrow. So I will be back later this week to try to get one of those rare trophy Bucks. But, I won’t be packing my Muzzle loader for this next hunting trip because Sunday (today) is the last day of our two day Muzzleloader Deer season.
Read below to understand how I can be so excited About switching from Gun to Bow
Deer hunting.
NITRO CROSSBOW HUNT - OPENING ARCHERY SEASON 2019
Zeroing my new TenPoint Nitro XRT In preparation for the opening of deer archery season. This is the most powerful, fastest, accurate crossbow I have ever owned. It is so fast (470 feet per second) that I cannot even see the Bolt screaming down range until it begins its pe*******on of the target then a very loud slapping noise as the bolt connects with practice target, penetrates through and well into a second target (placed behind the primary target as a precaution).
The Nitro is not only faster than competitors’ crossbows, it is more accurate too, utilizing a scope with 8 stadia levels ranging from the top crosshairs (aiming at a 20 yard target), and subsequent crosshairs (for targets at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and last and most distant 80 yards). It was amazing how steady and level the bolt navigated the shortest through to the longest distances.
The real proof of the utility of this great archery bow and what motivated me (and hopefully some of you) to lay down $2500 for this top drawer product comes down to 3 things. First this very well could be the last crossbow I may ever need to buy (this is my 5th TenPoint in the last 10 years) because it will be many years (if ever) before competitors beat the Nitro XRT. Second, Nitro is more than fast and accurate, it is deadly powerful delivering kinetic energy levels (190 FPS) that will create SHOCK EFFECT and more killing power than speed alone.
