Mount Desert Island Marathon Get REAL Maine. Run MDI! Marathon • Half • Relay • Kids Run
Race day is October 18, 2026 Once you , you’ll see why!

The Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay is North America’s premier destination road race. The award-winning course features miles of pristine terrain passing tranquil lakes, soaring mountains, sleepy Maine villages, and stunning seaside vistas —including Somes Sound, the only fjord on the Eastern Seaboard— all set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of Acadia National Park in peak fall foliage season. The Marathon and Team Relay start in the world-famous town of Bar Harbor, while the Half-Marathon starts in the well-to-do village of Northeast Harbor. All three races finish on the quietside of MDI in the hardworking lobster fishing community of Southwest Harbor. Hosted by Crow Athletics and held annually the weekend following Indigenous People’s Day, this fall classic has earned national and international accolades.

MDI Marathon Weekend is an incredible opportunity for our entire community to shine, and volunteering is a fun way to get involved. It’s also a great opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours required for graduation. Volunteers are needed Fri-10/16, Sat-10/17, and Sun 10/18.

We have group volunteer opportunities, too! Volunteering with a group is a fun and unique team-building experience. Additionally, groups/organizations that volunteer over race weekend will move to the top of the list to be considered beneficiaries of our annual Beyond the Finish Line fundraising initiative!

The MDI Marathon was founded in 2002 and created to leave more than footprints in the communities where we all love to run. Last year's Beyond the Finish Lineprogram had a record impact on the greater MDI community, totaling more than $90K!
