The Youth Resiliency Institute was honored to celebrate our beloved Ms. Ernestine’s 102nd birthday! Her unwavering faith, deep love of Black history, and continued support of YRI’s intergenerational programming in Cherry Hill and throughout Baltimore City continue to inspire our community and serve as a lasting blessing to generations young and old.

A heartfelt thank-you to Lexington Market for helping make this milestone birthday extra special at Ms. Ernestine’s favorite Baltimore market. Celebrating our elders means honoring their wisdom, preserving their stories, and ensuring that their legacy continues to inspire generations to come. Here’s to 102 years of life, love, faith, and Black history!

CHERRY HILL COMMUNITY SAFETY GATHERING

The IGNITE: Prioritizing Community Safety For Elders Cherry Hill Consortium recently came together in the wake of recent shootings in our neighborhood to talk openly about community safety and conditions that can put residents of all ages at risk.

The gathering created space for residents to share concerns and discuss ways to strengthen safety in Cherry Hill.

Thank you to the Baltimore Police Department- Southern District NCO Team for joining the conversation, sharing important data, and providing information about resources available to victims of violence.

A special thank you to MedStar Harbor Hospital for providing a welcoming space for the gathering and supporting the conversation with audio-visual technology.

The first week of fall has drawn to a close, and the Youth Resiliency Institute is taking a moment to reflect on a successful summer and express our gratitude.

Cherry Hill’s own Kerq and Ike MoDeezy rocked the stage at the 2026 Cherry Hill Arts & Music Festival, demonstrating the cross-generational talent that Cherry Hill has nurtured and that continues to thrive in the community. Moments like this highlight the importance of investing in arts and culture in Cherry Hill and wider South Baltimore. Supporting artists and creative opportunities that strengthen community pride and help ensure that local talent can grow and flourish for generations to come is a hallmark of the Youth Resiliency Institute.

The first week of Fall has come to a close and the Youth Resiliency Institute is taking a moment to look back—and give thanks.

One of the highlights of the Youth Resiliency Institute’s 2026 summer Cherry Hill Arts & Music Waterfront Festival was a Sip & Paint experience created for elders in partnership with the Ignite Cherry Hill Elder Safety Consortium and the Baltimore Police Department’s Southern District Neighborhood Collaboration Unit. The activity provided elders with an opportunity to express themselves creatively, connect with one another, and enjoy a welcoming community experience. Partnerships like this demonstrate how arts and culture can strengthen relationships, promote well-being, and create meaningful spaces for residents.
