While we are unable to close our doors today, we stand together with our small business neighbors in support of abolishing ICE, and will be donating $1 from every beer or cocktail purchase today to CASA of MD.
No Land Beyond stands in solidarity with those participating in the general strike today and with those who have been targeted, detained, and killed by ICE. We believe that we are a nation of immigrants, descended from immigrants, and we believe in the inalienable dignity of the human spirit; no human being is illegal. Immigrants not only deserve safety, security, and basic human dignity, but are part of the foundation of what makes our society function. They are our neighbors, our community members, our teachers, pastors, and colleagues. We believe that ICE must be abolished, not reformed, not financially mandated into compliance.
No Land Beyond has always been, and will continue to be, a political entity: our very existence as a Third Place, as honest employers, as a community, and as a safe place for marginalized people, is a political act. We’re proud to use our platform as a voice for the unheard. The current administration, and truthfully all of our previous administrations on either side of the aisle, have not faithfully done the job of representing and protecting the working class - hateful and divisive rhetoric over generations has led to the tragedies we’ve witnessed both here and abroad. The government, corporate media, and corporations continue to use fear and division as a way to distract us as they slowly strip away our rights. They teach us to “other” one another so that we can’t stand together in solidarity against our real enemies: those who choose profit over people.
We’re proud of our neighbors and those around the country who are standing up for marginalized folks everywhere. We will continue to be an inclusive space, and espouse those values in both word and action. Stay strong, stay safe, and remember: the fight doesn’t end today. We must always be beacons of goodness and hope, and voices for the unheard.
