Clearly a few setbacks weren’t going to stop Skyler Woolard. But when the opportunity came to start a private gym, he jumped on it.

This week on Shop Talk with Radiate Prints I sat down with Skyler Woolard to talk about Foundry Barbell 🏋️‍♂️ Skyler started a gym during COVID and hasn’t looked back. He joined me on the podcast to share the story of his gym with a hardworking but family-like culture, and why his business doesn’t try to be everything to everyone.

Half of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, and that stress is walking into your business every morning.

In this episode of Shop Talk with Radiate Prints, host Taylor Walden sits down with Heather Davis with Cents with Intent, a money coach based in Eastern North Carolina, to talk about why financial stress shows up at work and what business owners can actually do about it.

Heather shares the warning signs to watch for in your team, why offering great 401(k) benefits isn't enough if employees don't understand them, and her hot take that more income usually isn’t the answer. She also opens up about leaving a decade-long career as a speech therapist before launching her coaching business, the imposter syndrome she had to push through, and the moment in January 2025 that pushed her to stop treating her business like a hobby.

Whether you're an Eastern NC employer looking to support your team, a small business owner tangled up in mixed personal and business finances, or an entrepreneur trying to budget around irregular income, this conversation has practical advice you can use this week.

Do you order your company t-shirts from one of those big online vendors? Here’s what they aren’t telling you ⬇️

💰 You’re probably overpaying. Unless you have a dedicated account rep or call them every time to argue the price down, you are most likely overpaying for your shirts

🫟 They contract your job out to smaller shops. This is super common in the print industry. A lot of times, you are effectively buying from a middle man (which can be good if they’re an advocate for you and offer you benefits, maybe not so good if they’re a pain to work with)

⏰ If your order doesn’t arrive on time or something goes wrong, you’re just another number. You should be able to rely on your print shop when things go wrong, not be questioning if they’ll even return your email or phone call at all

🤝 At Radiate Prints, you aren’t just another transaction. You work with a real person who wants to get to know you and your business so we can offer solutions that align with your values and business strategy.

A nickel raise. A kitchen table. 70 years of printing.

This week on Shop Talk, I’m talking with Parker Morgan, third-generation owner of Morgan Printers

Parker’s grandfather quit his job over a five-cent raise and started knocking on doors offering to draw logos in exchange for printing work. Three generations later, Morgan Printers is still here, still family-run, and still very much in the ink-on-paper business (despite what you’ve heard).

In this episode we get into:
→ How the print industry has evolved from hand-set letterpress to fully digital
→ Why an electrical fire actually pushed the business forward
→ The realities of family succession when money is involved
→ Parker’s almost-career as a P.A.
→ A wild 9/11 story you have to hear

If you’re sitting on a business idea, what’s holding you back?

Layden Pearce had the idea for HILO Sauna + Plunge after trying out contrast therapy while traveling. But before pursuing the idea, here's what she did first:

-Competitive Analysis: What’s the current market look like? Are there competitors here, and if so, what could we do better?
-Industry Research: What’s the best kind of equipment? What does it cost to run equipment like this, and how much do people charge in the industry?
-Financial Breakdown: What’s the monthly financial cost of running the business, from utilities to payroll? Do we have equity to fund this or will we pursue a loan?

And now, 5 months after launching her new business, she came on the Shop Talk with Radiate Prints podcast to share her experience from planning, to launch, and now the reality of running a contrast therapy studio in Winterville, North Carolina.

This Greenville company is sending aircraft parts all over the world. Meet Pilot John International ✈️

John Werner started Pilot John International as a blog. No business plan. No investors. Just a pilot posting equipment online after some convincing from a captain. Then people started buying.

Eight years later he’s running a company of nearly 50 people shipping aircraft parts across the world out of 3 locations in Greenville and New Bern, NC.

Is your website secretly hurting your local SEO? 👀

Local business marketing strategist Alida Lee joined us on this week's episode and her answers were a wake-up call for most business owners. Something as simple as not having your address visible near the top of your page could be costing you customers and search ranking. And if your homepage headline is just a cute tagline instead of clearly stating what you do? Same problem.

These are the kinds of fixes that don't require a full website redesign, just clarity 🙌

Here’s how to visit gardens for FREE this weekend ⬇️

First - I’m Taylor 👋🏻 I own a local business and host a podcast showcasing the stories of entrepreneurs who have ties to Eastern North Carolina 🌅 I live in ENC with my family and we love to go exploring on the weekends!

My family and I visited Tryon Palace and Gardens in Historic New Bern over Easter Weekend. We brought our two toddlers and the grandparents, and there was something for everyone.

The toddlers loved running around the 21 acre (fenced in!!) gardens. And we enjoyed the tour of the house, a replica of the original governor of NC’s home from back when New Bern was the capital city. The original home burned during a fire, and in the 1950’s the home was rebuilt and opened as a museum and gardens.

Tours of the home usually last about an hour. BUT one of the kind ladies who worked in the home gave us an expedited version of the tour when she could tell our toddlers were tired of sitting still. It was so thoughtful and made all the difference to still be able to see the house and enjoy the work they’ve done to restore it!

They also had a live cooking demonstration while we were visiting, and we were able to see someone cooking a recipe the way they did back in the 1700’s!

Now, here’s how to visit the gardens for free April 10th-12th, 2026 💐

This weekend is “Garden Lovers’ Weekend”, and the gardens are open to the public on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Plus, they’ll have live paintings in the gardens, live music from a local woodwind group, and a plant sale!!

Are you going to check it out? ⛲️ Let me know in the comments!!
