Simply put, OWOM celebrates marginalized cultures, explores unique musical traditions, and fosters universal connection, which perfectly aligns with what celebrating Pride is all about.

OWOM Artistic Director Scott Donald gives us more insight into this programming this as our annual season-ender. Come join the fun!

Conjunto music is a popular, high-energy Tex-Mex dance music that is indigenous to South and Central Texas. Developed by working-class Mexican Americans in South Texas during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it started when Tejanos, Texans of Mexican heritage, took an interest in the accordion music of German, Polish, and Czech immigrants. The accordion music that came after soon became the representation of Tejano living. It’s a tradition shared by many Tejano communities throughout South and Central Texas, celebrated especially through local fiestas and afternoon parties.

Experience conjunto–music that is uniquely Texan Mexican American–with Federico and Juan Longoria this coming Sunday, May 3 at 3pm in Studio A. We’re grateful to Texas Folklife for this wonderful collaboration!

Juan and Federico Longoria, inspired by the musical influences of their father Juan Longoria Sr. and uncles, “Los Halcones Del Valle” co-founded the musical groups, “Los Potrillos,”in 1998 and “Conteño” in 2008. Grupo Conteño is representative of the harmonious balance of styles distinctive to regional Texas-Mexican music including the genres of Conjunto, Tejano and Norteño.

Grupo Conteño, was founded in the border town of Brownsville, Texas and has a signature style that is a mix of upbeat, modern rhythms rooted in traditional sounds. These unique musical characteristics have created faithful Conteño fans of different ages and backgrounds all around the world. In 2016, Conteño was selected to participate in the national folk festival circuit including performances and workshops at both the Montana and Richmond Folk Festivals. Juan and Federico were also selected in September 2025 to represent the United States of America at the US pavilion at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Catch them this Sunday at One World One Music!
