Lisbon, 2023 & 2024. This is what a conference about the future of work can look like.

A table in the Lisbon sunshine.
People from different countries exchanging ideas.

No office required.

Running Remote has moved around the world over the years, but the reason we gather hasn't changed:

To learn how to build organizations that give people the freedom to do great work from anywhere—and help leaders make that freedom sustainable.

Lisbon gave us a pretty incredible backdrop for it.

The remote work conversation changed almost overnight.

Before 2020, much of our focus was on helping organizations understand how remote work could work.

By Running Remote Montreal in 2022, the question had become:

What do we do with everything we've just learned?

Companies were navigating remote, hybrid, return-to-office, distributed hiring, new expectations from employees, and entirely new ways of leading teams.

There wasn't one answer.

So we brought together the people working through it.

Then came Lisbon 🇵🇹.

In 2023 and again in 2024, Running Remote brought the community to one of Europe's most beautiful cities.

By then, the question was no longer whether remote work could work.

The conversation had matured.

How do we make distributed organizations better?
How do we build stronger cultures?
How do we give people flexibility without losing connection?

And, as always, some of the best answers came from conversations outside the conference room.

After years of talking about connecting people remotely, 2022 reminded us just how valuable it is to meet in person.

Running Remote came to Montreal that May as the world was still emerging from the disruption and restrictions of the pandemic.

Work had changed dramatically.

Millions had experienced remote work for the first time, and leaders everywhere were trying to understand what came next.

So we got together and talked about it.

In person.

There was something particularly special about that one.

Behind every keynote, every panel, every connection, and every unforgettable moment ...

is a team that makes it all happen.

Running Remote is more than a conference. It's the result of months of planning, countless details, and a shared belief that the future of work deserves a place where people can learn from one another.

To everyone on this team: thank you for making Running Remote 2026 possible.
Here's to building the future of work, together.

One evening.
Hundreds of conversations.
Countless new connections.

Welcome Drinks are more than a social event. They're the beginning of everything that follows.

Because great conferences aren't just built on content.

They're built on community.

The future of work isn't designed in isolation.

It's shaped by leaders willing to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and learn from one another.

That's exactly what the Enterprise Workplace Innovators Breakfast was created for.

Over coffee and breakfast, workplace leaders explored how to build organizations where flexibility, connection, and business outcomes reinforce each other, not compete.

Because the best workplace strategies don't come from having all the answers.
They come from asking better questions together.

Summer is here. ☀️

A reminder to take a break, catch up with good people, and make time for the conversations that don't fit on a calendar.

One of our favorite memories from Running Remote 2026's Welcome Drinks.

Here's to connection, community, and everything that's built in between. 🥂

Some of the most valuable conversations at Running Remote 2026 happened before the conference officially began.

Our Enterprise Workplace Innovators Breakfast this year brought together workplace leaders responsible for designing how flexible work actually works at scale.

Over breakfast, they exchanged ideas on hybrid policies, workplace design, employee experience, and creating connection across distributed organizations.

No presentations.
No sales pitches.
Just thoughtful conversations between people solving similar challenges.

Because sometimes the best ideas start with a simple question over coffee.

Remote work may happen through screens.

But trust, belonging, and connection are still deeply human.

One of our favorite moments from Day 1 of Running Remote 2026: a simple hug between peers who may have spent months, or even years, following each other's journeys from afar.

Bobbi Wegner, Psy.D. reminded us throughout the event that we're wired for connection. And in a world increasingly shaped by AI, automation, and distributed work, those moments matter more than ever.

Because culture isn't built in software.

It's built between people.
