The Journey of Cakes Rock
Christy is a lifelong athlete who has always LOVED to eat! She created her first cake at 5 years old, & discovered a passion for sugar art. She created cakes for family & friends for many years as a hobby, while pursuing other avenues, always wishing she could create cakes full time. Suddenly the passing of the Cottage Laws in South Carolina, where she was living at the time, enabled her to start her cake business from home, & it took off quickly from there!
Christy was valedictorian of her high school class, a National Merit Scholar, & attended the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!), earning her BBA in Accounting, & her MBA in Marketing & Sport Management. In high school she was North Region MVP in basketball, State High Individual in track twice, & All State in softball. Her other passion was horses, & she earned countless awards with her beloved horse Bits Misty Bee, including 4H State Champion, & becoming Miss Rodeo Georgia 1988. In college she discovered bodybuilding & still loves it to this day, winning the National Masters Figure Champion title in 2010.
Before cakes, Christy had the largest woman-owned landscape design company in East Tennessee. Then she moved to South Carolina to marry the love of her life, Michael Seguin, & became a top realtor. When real estate died, she became a personal trainer & had her own studio in a boxing gym where she also taught boot camp & group classes. It was during this time that she started earnestly creating sugar art & was amazed at the response. So yes, it is weird, but she had a gym AND a cake business at the same time!
When her husband was recruited to Austin & offered a dream position, she had never even been to Austin & didn't know a soul there. But she decided that her heart truly wanted to do nothing else but the cakes, & on May 7, 2014, she launched Cakes ROCK!!! literally from Ground Zero in Austin. Working from home alone at first, Cakes ROCK!!! quickly grew into more than she could handle, so she hired talented Cake Minions. She then moved into a shared commercial kitchen in late 2016 & expanded further. By fall of 2017 it became apparent that she needed her own space & she purchased her own bakery! Cakes ROCK!!! is now located at 4201 South Congress Avenue in Austin and 2400B Hwy 290 W in Dripping Springs.
