We're extremely proud to be the headquarters of one of the largest and oldest nonpartisan women's volunteer service organization in the nation, and one of the very few nonprofit venues in town. This larger social movement of women gathered at the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Historical Foundation, and were instrumental in creating programs for free kindergarten, public libraries, public health and sanitation, settlement houses, cultural and artistic works. These clubs would often pay for these programs out of their own pocket until they could convince the city to properly fund them. Today, 70% of all public libraries in Texas were started through efforts of members within the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs.

Pictured amongst this group are the mother-daugher duo of Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis and her daughter; Anna Marie Jarvis, who would later become known as the founders of Mother's Day.
