The Hondo

The Hondo Bicycle Gravel event based out of Wichita Kansas 100 mile gravel fondo going through the Flint Hills starting out of Wichita Kansas area. Stay tuned!
(19)

There will be cue sheets and a GPS route for course guidance. The course will flow east of Wichita and cover some very beautiful scenery and challenging roads. Be sure to run your Flint Hills set up as there are some very rugged road sections on the course. There will be a town midway through the ride for you to refuel and another oasis location on the return. There will also be a 50 mile option t

hat still covers most of the beautiful sights. Even the regular Wichita gravel riders will be in for a suprise as you will be on roads that you didnt even know existed. This will be a self supported event with two neutral support locations provided and supported by Bicycle X-Change. The weather this time of the year is fantastic and the course is fully gravel covered with only a few potential very short muddy sections should it rain. I believe that the entire course would be ridable in any conditions. More info will be posted as the event draws nearer.

Our Story

WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, AND WHO of THE HONDO!

WHAT: The Hondo is 4 fun gravel events. There’s a 119 mile race (The Hondo), 77 mile intermediate challenge (The Hondo Intermediate), 29 mile short course (The Hondo Short), and a FREE family fun ride – a 4 mile gravel loop around the Augusta City Lake (The Hondo Fun). All starting together with a neutral roll out around the lake. The Hondo is the big mamba jamba. The most challenging epic terrain, with the most amazing scenery, and on roads most have never seen. The Hondo will go through Eureka, Beaumont, and Leon. There will be 3 check points for the The Hondo at mile 55, mile 80, and mile 106. The Hondo intermediate is some of the same challenging and scenic roads, also stops in historic Beaumont, and is just “enough” to satisfy without totally eating one’s lunch. There will be 2 check points for the THI at mile 38, and mile 64. The Hondo Short will be perfect for those wanting an easy day or those new to the "gravel grinding" scene. THS will have one checkpoint at mile 16. All courses follow the same route till their respective cut off. The course starts out fairly tame and flat but gets progressively more challenging as you go. There will be basic items at the checkpoints such as water and limited food. Bring cash for supplies at checkpoints. The first checkpoint for the TH will have access to a Casey's and Sonic on the route and a restaurant at the second check point. The third checkpoint will have an aid station with water and limited food supplies. Plan on providing for yourself with what you need. We will offer a drop bag service for each checkpoint. No coolers please. The THI utilizes the 2nd and 3rd checkpoint of the long course. The THS utilizes the last checkpoint of the long course. The Hondo Fun is perfect for families and children, and it’s FREE!
