Spirit of the Buffalo Multicultural Festival and Pow Wow

The sound of tradition carried through the cool air at the 2026 Spirit of the Buffalo Pow Wow as Allen Hollingshead shared Native American songs and flute music with attendees.

In many Native cultures, music is far more than entertainment. Songs, drums, and flutes are woven into ceremonies, storytelling, prayer, celebration, and remembrance. Through music, history is preserved, lessons are passed from one generation to the next, and connections to ancestors, community, and the natural world are strengthened.

Even on a chilly day, the music created a warm gathering place where visitors could pause, listen, and reflect on the rich traditions that continue to thrive today. Moments like these remind us that culture lives not only in museums and books, but in the voices, instruments, and stories shared by those who carry these traditions forward.

CASTING CALL - ACTORS WANTED

MEN (ages 18 to early 50'S) as Background talent
For the roles of SPANISH SETTLERS or CALUSA INDIAN. MEN ONLY
for the historical Civil War era production
A LAND REMEMBERED

DATES: 9/15/26 & 9/16/26
RATE: $200/10hrs + 1hr for meal
CALL TIME: still TBD - likely early. Need to have full availability at any time.
LOCATION: Hudson, Florida area
**You must work as a local, no travel will be covered.
Let us know if you are available for both days, but most likely will be only one day on 9/16.will be selected by the client.
****You MAY be REQUIRED to come to a fitting

If you are selected for this production, you will be filming a battle scene and some may have to “fall" as if you have been injured in the battle. Not every one. Some will be specialty roles with a hirer rate.

We are ideally looking for men with longer hair but if you do have short or modern haircut, please submit anyways. Bald also is okay.

INDIAN types need to be somewhat muscular and will be in minimal clothing.

A rare cold day in sunny Florida — and the energy was still unstoppable.

Intertribal Dancing under the Big Top Tent brought warmth, color, and spirit to the 2026 Spirit of the Buffalo Pow Wow. Even with the January chill, dancers filled the arena with movement, tradition, and vibrant regalia that lit up the whole tent.

Moments like this remind us that the Pow Wow’s heartbeat doesn’t come from the weather — it comes from the people, the culture, and the stories carried in every step.

Congratulations to the talented students of Jewett Middle Academy for bringing home a well‑deserved award at the Polk County Public Schools’ Video Awards for their outstanding news coverage of the Spirit of the Buffalo Pow Wow & Multicultural Festival

The Polk County Public Schools Video Awards is hosted by Polk County School District. Polk County Public Schools is one of the largest school districts in the nation, encompassing more than 120 schools and serving more than 117,000 students through both traditional K-12 schools and a variety of other programs.

Jewett Middle Academy is a high‑performing magnet school in Winter Haven known for strong academics, student leadership, and creative learning opportunities.

That’s an incredible achievement and a testament to the dedication of Jewett’s young journalists, editors, and media teachers.
