Having animals with humans saves animals in the wild. World Parrot Expo will have well over 30 live animals for you to explore and learn why and how having these animals is important for their future and our own! No animals are for sale or adoption. Please do not bring any outside animals that are not checked in and have a location to be in. It’s important our animals have a safe visit at World Parrot Expo.

That said, please respect the animals that are attending World Parrot Expo with understanding if they don’t want to participate, do not insist. Especially when it comes to holding or petting any animal. We want them to have a great visit just as much as you! Instead if you are allowed to hold or pet, take that as a big honor and magic moment the animal allowed it. Consider a donation because they did!

Many animals at World Parrot Expo will be hands off. We actually appreciate those animals just as much as those we can handle! They are amazing and you can take pictures of them.

All handling of any animals anywhere by anyone has a risk of a human being harmed. Clearly none of us want you or our animals harmed in any way. So please understand to respect our exhibits— do not just randomly try or allow someone to try touching any animal without specific permission and caution.

All exhibits that allow handling of animals assume their own risk. Please keep your animals near your exhibits for their safety.

Thank you everyone for understanding we are seeking cooperation from our animals and asking for behavior vs demanding it:).

In the meantime, we know that sometimes we have to do things that might seem impossible like taking all the condors from the wild in order to save them and restore them to the wild!

On Easter Sunday, April 19, 1987, biologists did something that felt unthinkable. They captured a California condor named AC9, nicknamed T**a T**a, the last free-flying condor left in the wild. For the first time in recorded history, there wasn't a single wild condor left on the entire continent.

It wasn't a failure. It was a last resort.

The California condor is North America's largest flying bird, with a wingspan that can stretch nearly 10 feet and a lifespan that can top 60 years. But by 1982, only 22 condors remained on Earth. Lead poisoning from feeding on carcasses shot with lead am******on, along with habitat loss and collisions with power lines, had pushed the species to the brink.

Biologists faced an agonizing choice: capture every remaining wild condor and bet everything on a captive breeding program, or risk watching the species disappear entirely. Many conservationists pushed back, worried that condors raised in captivity might lose the instincts that made them wild.

The gamble began at the San Diego and Los Angeles Zoos. In 1992, the first captive-bred condors were released back into the wild. By 2004, wild condor chicks were hatching on their own again for the first time in decades.

Today, more than 550 California condors exist, with roughly 350 soaring free across California, Arizona, Utah, and Baja California. A species that scientists deliberately erased from the wild in order to save it now has more birds flying free than it had left in total less than 40 years ago.

Lead poisoning from am******on remains the leading cause of death for wild condors today, which is why many conservation groups continue working with hunters to promote non-lead am******on.
