Dear fellow Georgians-
It is with great sadness that we inform you that former First Lady of Georgia, Sandra Deal has passed away. First Lady Deal dedicated herself to the promotion of education and literacy. In November of 2018, First Lady Deal came to the Decatur Library to launch the program “Get Georgia Reading,” which used a specially printed picture book, “Forever Loblolly,” celebrating Georgia’s native pine tree and featuring text by Georgians Carmen Deedy and John McCutcheon and illustrations by Tom Gonzalez. First Lady Deal was also recognized by the GCB for her book, “Memories of the Mansion,” with co-authors Jennifer W. Dickey and Catherine M. Lewis in 2016 as a “Book All Georgians Should Read.” We hope that you keep her family in your thoughts, and continue her legacy of education and literacy.
