Every once in a while a gunmaker has the opportunity to work on a gun or rifle with historical significance. Along with this opportunity, comes the responsibility of doing justice to the original while honoring the craftsmen who first created the firearm. Such was the case with this Joseph Fugger engraved Griffin and Howe Springfield. This rifle was delivered to our shop with high condition original metal work but lacking a stock. I was instructed by the fine folk at Griffin and Howe to craft a stock as close to the original as possible. After much research and many painstaking hours at the bench I am more than pleased with the results.

I just finished stocking a Wesson Long Range. This action was made by Steve Earle, the metalsmith was Glenn Fewless and Chris Rossiter executed the engraving. The rifle is chambered in 45-70 and shall spend its days knocking over silhouettes in BPCR competition. Next up this rifle returns to Mr. Fewless for metal finishing. I will have this and other work on display at the Dallas Safari Club International show next week.
