CONGRATULATIONS to everyone that participated in this year's Thunderbunny Trail Races!

We had a great day with over 270 runners starting the race. Official results and photos from the 50K, 25K+, and 11K can be found at the link below.

We also want to give a huge shout out to the community of volunteers that support the Thunderbunny Trail Races. From pre-race activities, to aid station support, to post-race tear down, there was over 60 individuals that contribute to make Thunderbunny possible.

Our goal with Thunderbunny is to showcase our amazing trails to the many people that come to Athens, and to show off our strong trail running community. Thunderbunny embodies that mission year after year, and it shows with so many happy finishers that comment on how well they enjoyed the experience on the course and the support from volunteers!

We're also proud to activate countless hours of trail maintenance and tree clearing in the weeks leading up to Thunderbunny race day - spring time is a beautiful time on our singletrack trails, but it also bring the bursting spring foliage that takes work to manage. We also want to comment on how much we value the work the Athens Bicycle Club, who continue to be the best stewards of our trails a community could ask for; we appreciate your support of our race!

We're wrapping up the Iron Furnace Trail Run that was held this past weekend at Lake Hope State Park! Over 200 runners enjoyed HOT conditions reaching into the mid-80's for the Half Marathon or 5 Mile distances. IFTR is our oldest and original trail running event, and we once again loved welcoming people to this amazing park.

The Assist

Will Koenig

Will timed out on hour 40, giving the OBU victory to Tyler Keenan. His official result was 39 Yards and 162.5 Miles.

One would think Will was an ultra marathon veteran with that performance, but he only had one 50K race prior to entering OBU. His steady and controlled effort showed he had a good perspective of the event and what he could handle.

It will be exciting to see what Will can do if he runs OBU again. Congrats to Will Koenig for being The Assist at the 2026 Ohios Backyard Ultra.

Hour 40 - LAST PERSON STANDING

Tyler Keenan

Tyler is the 2026 Ohio’s Backyard Ultra Last Person Standing. Will Koenig came in after the one hour mark on the 40th yard, after Tyler completed it successfully.

Tyler adds to his impressive OBU resume. In 2024 he was The Assist with 43 Yards. Like three other winners of OBU, Tyler came back after being The Assist and won. He has two other results of over 145 miles at OBU as well.

Congrats to Tyler Keenan for being the Last Person Standing!
