This weeks interview! 🎾

Maegan Manasse
Maegan was in our singles final in 2018 and semifinals in doubles in 2019!

I’m 24 years old from Redondo Beach, California

How long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing tennis for 21 years and I’ve been playing on the pro tour for 1.5 years

Where's your favorite place to play?
My favorite place to play was in Washington DC at Citi Open. It’s also my favorite memory because I played in front of 3,000 people and it was a great experience!

Tell us something interesting about you?
A fun fact about me is that I love baking! I love sweets and baking all types of sweets!

What inspires/drives you?
That’s a tough question! I’d probably say my mom. She works so incredibly hard and she’s always drilled into my head to be the best that I can be from such a young age!

Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions! We look forward to following your career and best of luck to you during this season and we hope to see you back in Ashland soon!

Let's meet Lorraine Guillermo!!
I am 26 yrs old from Walnut, California, I have been playing professionally for 4 yrs now.

Favorite place to play?
Ashland is definitely a top contending choice of my favorite places to play but I would have to say that it is Fort Worth, Texas and Norman, Oklahoma.

Tell us something interesting about you!!
Something most people don't know about me is that although I play tennis right handed I am actually left handed in just about everything else I do.

Favorite animal?
I really want to get a dog but playing on tour makes it super difficult. When I was home I almost asked my next door neighbor if I could walk their dog 😂 I just love how dogs really seem like they love life and always look happy to see anybody!!

Favorite food?
I love noodles! My favorite cuisines are Japanese and Thai because a lot of their dishes involve noodles 🍜

Favorite memory of your career?
It's so hard to choose a favorite memory! But I would have to say that my favorite memories are meeting so many different people from different places with different backgrounds and seeing how a sport brings people of all different walks of life together!!

We loved having Lorraine at our tournament and hopefully get to see her again this July! Good luck!

Let's meet Zoe Hives!!

I'm 23 from Kingston, Victoria, Australia (near melbourne)

How long have you been playing tennis?
I’ve been playing since I was about 4 or 5, and playing on the tour and travelling since 2015 (I think haha)

Where's your favorite place to play?
Australian Open would be my favourite place to play so far. I’ve grown up playing there, and being able to have friends and family watch me play in 2019 was an experience I’ll never forget. The tournament in Ashland was up there though. I loved the people and the community feel there (and it is my best singles result overseas)

Tell us something interesting about you!!
I live on a farm and love spending time with my pet cows! 🐄

What's your favorite memory of your career so far?
Winning my first round match at AO 2019 in front of family and friends.

Thank you Zoe!! We look forward to following your career and hope to see you back in Ashland this year!

Let's meet Sanaz Marand
Sanaz and her doubles partner were the Doubles Champions in 2019

I am 31yrs old
From Houston, tx
Been playing for 8yrs

Favorite place to play? Favorite place to play probably Washington DC.
But Ashland is up there bc of the great volunteers and families that help out :)

Tell us something interesting about yourself!!
My first language was Farsi. Which is spoken in Iran. My parents are from there.

Favorite memory of your career? I am not sure, It’s hard to choose. Maybe playing on stadium court in the Wta Washington DC tournament. Beating a much higher ranked player than me and the fans really supporting me and cheering me on! It was really cool. Another favorite moment was (played at Unc) clinching the match against Duke at ncaa’s in 2010 to play in the final four for the first time for UNC tennis.

Sanaz has announced her retirement "It has been hard to find the words to express my thoughts but I have made the decision to stop playing tennis. I am super excited for what the next chapter of my life will hold. It is both scary and exciting.
I just want to thank the people that have made my journey so incredible"
We know she will be deeply missed in Ashland!! Good luck on the next chapter!!

Let's meet Kennedy Shaffer!!
Hello!
I’m 22 and I’m from Rossford, OH.
I’ve been playing tennis in general for 14 years and professionally on and off for about 7 years (college tennis made it hard to play pro consistently). 2019 was my first year on tour as a full time professional without collegiate obligations.

Favorite place to play 🎾?
I’d say my favorite place to play would be Saguenay, Canada. I love the city and all aspects of the event itself.

Tell us something interesting about you!!
As far as anything interesting about myself I really wish I could think of something but I genuinely don’t have any hidden talents...I don’t do much else besides practice, work, and read books/watch Netflix lol.

Favorite memory of your career?
I’d say my favorite memory of my career so far would be winning my very first title at the Evansville ITF in 2016. The title this past weekend in Norman was a close second but there’s just something about the first one that means so much 😊

What drives/inspires you?
I love to play and I love to compete. I have this ability to play a sport at a high level and that’s an absolute blessing so I’m just enjoying the journey and every struggle that comes with it. One day I won’t be able to do this anymore and I know I’m going to miss it when it’s gone so I want to soak up every moment — whether it’s good or bad — while I still can!

Congratulations Kennedy on your accomplishments! We look forward to following your career!
