🎉 Introducing a new member of the Salt Creek Song Festival Board — welcome, Brandon Bell, our new Marketing Chair!

Brandon is a baritone and multifaceted artist whose work spans performance, collaboration, and curation. He's appeared across the nation on stages with Opera Philadelphia, Santa Fe Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, the Ravinia Festival, and – of course – our very own Salt Creek Song Festival! 🎶

Beyond the stage, Brandon has helped shape new operas from workshop to world premiere, and works as Marketing and Social Media Coordinator for Stagetime, connecting performing artists with career opportunities.

He believes deeply in our artful mission and is thrilled to join in the phenomenal work ahead. Welcome, Brandon! 💛

🎉 Introducing a new member of the Salt Creek Song Festival Board — welcome, Zachary A. Peterson, our new Secretary!

Zachary is a collaborative pianist, educator, and higher education professional whose performances have taken him across the country, from Carnegie Hall and The Riverside Church in New York to the Lied Center right here in Nebraska. He's also worked closely with acclaimed artists like Renée Fleming and Jake Heggie through master classes, and serves as a staff pianist for the Kurt Weill Foundation's Lotte Lenya Competition.

Beyond performing, Zachary serves as Associate Director of Graduate Advising and Services at the Eastman School of Music and teaches at the University of Rochester, where his research explores identity development and equity for music students. A Nebraska native, he holds degrees from Hastings College and the Eastman School of Music, and is currently pursuing his doctorate in higher education.

📅 2026 Festival Season

Our SCSF mainstage performances bring the big moments — but it’s intimate evenings like this one, part of our Art Song After Hours series at Willow Point Gallery, that make the festival feel complete.

The festival may only come once a year, but the music doesn’t have to stop there. We’ll keep sharing moments like this one to keep the songs — and the community around them — alive in between seasons. 🌿 Stay tuned for more clips from seasons past.

Salt Creek Song Festival started with a simple idea: bring incredible musicians together to create something rooted in community. Gretchen co-founded that vision and also has helped guide it as Secretary of our Board of Directors.

As she steps down from the board, we're so grateful for everything she's built with us. Gretchen, thank you for the years of heart, artistry, and leadership! 🎶

The board may look a little different, but the heart of SCSF – community, connection, and beautiful music – stays exactly the same.

☀️🎶 That’s a wrap on our first ever Summer Composer Residency! Huge thanks to Barry Sharp for spending the week with us at Salt Creek.

“road mountaintop air” is officially taking shape, and we can’t wait for you all to hear it at the 2027 Festival!

This week, we’re thrilled to welcome Philadelphia-based composer and musician Barry Sharp to SCSF for our first ever Summer Composer Residency! ☀️
 Barry joins us straight from Spain, fresh off the 2026 Valencia International Performing Arts Summer Festival, where he composed a new piece for the renowned Mivos Quartet.
 We can’t wait to spend this week working alongside Barry as he develops “road mountaintop air,” an exciting new piece set to be presented as part of our 2027 Festival. More details on that coming soon. 
This residency continues our passion for commissioning new work and investing in the voices shaping the future of vocal music, adding to the canon of art song one piece at a time.

📣 Just Announced!

Mark your calendars for the 2027 Salt Creek Song Festival: BIRDS OF A FEATHER, coming to Ashland, Nebraska May 23-29, 2027.

We're already looking forward to another week of extraordinary art song, meaningful connection, and unforgettable performances shared in community. Save the date and stay tuned. We’ll have much more to share about our sixth season in the months ahead.

And just like that, festival week is here!

Join us as we kick of our fifth season Sunday at 4 PM with an incredible performance by and of “My Antonia” by and the world premiere of “I was something that lay under the sun” by at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
