Greetings Forty Framers,

I am certain many of you have seen the news released last week by the USBC announcing their purchase of all trademarks, intellectual property and licensing rights for The Forty Frame Game. The USBC now has the right to totally operate The Forty Frame Game at the USBC Open Championships at whatever site it is held each year.

The FFG will not be offered in 2024 at the USBC Open Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada as the USBC plans to invest in technology to make the scoring experience better for bowlers.

What does this mean for FFG Toledo, which has been offered at numerous sites every year since 1989? The short answer is the FFG Toledo will no longer be offered in Toledo. The long answer is after many days and weeks of deliberation, I have personally decided not to continue to operate in Toledo or anywhere else. The Forty Frame Game will now only be available at the USBC Open Championships.

It is difficult for me to put into words how much The Forty Frame Game Toledo has meant to me and my wife Kim. Nearly every Saturday and most Sundays it was a huge part of our life from January to June. The best part of it by far was being with our bowlers, most often only once a year. Tournament bowlers are good people. They come to win a few prize dollars, sure, but mainly they enjoy being with other bowlers in a different venue.

The Squad Leaders were the backbone of our tournament bringing more than 80% of our customers each week. These were special people, many of whom became friends forever. We could not have succeeded without them. The youngsters who kept score for 40 framers also developed friendships over the years and our entrants many times requested their favorites. Last but far from least, were the ladies of our operation as we finish our journey: Kathy, Kim, Shirley, Ruth and Lorie. They have been such good hostesses for our guests, most especially, Kathy Childress. She is gracious and so knowledgeable and loved by all.

It has been a great run for me and a big part of my business life. I will miss the people and being around the FFG, the best, most fun tournament ever. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it for all of these years.

Improving Your Accuracy

Accuracy is the ability to hit a specific target repeatedly. In bowling, this is an essential part of the recipe to improving your average, making cuts, and winning tournaments. Here are three things you can do to improve your accuracy:

Proper alignment: Make sure your hips, shoulders, knees, and feet are properly aligned with your desired ball path.
Straight swing: With few exceptions, a consistently straight swing is a key element of good accuracy. If you have a loopy swing, look to correct it to be as straight as possible.

Consistent timing: Work on having a repeatable approach that gets you and the ball to the line the same way every time. This helps minimize timing variations that will affect your launch angle.

Hello Forty Framers,

Many of you may have seen the news released yesterday by the USBC announcing their purchase of all trademarks, intellectual property and licensing rights for The Forty Frame Game. After operating the FFG for 34 years, the time had come for me to retire and now with the USBC taking the reins, I am very happy to announce that our tournament will continue on for many years to come. As you know, the FFG is a unique and fun competition loved by many. It has always been my goal to put “our baby” in the hands of the USBC to keep the integrity of the game intact and take it to the next level with improved technology and enjoyment for you, our loyal bowlers and friends.

The FFG will not be offered in 2024 at the USBC National Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada as the USBC plans to invest in technology to make the scoring experience better for bowlers.

There are so many people I wish to thank. First of all, my original partners, Bruce Davis and Ty Szumigala. Bruce designed the game with me and Ty providing support and “boots on the ground”. The FFG is truly a bowling creation that has survived the test of time without a single change in format.

I want to thank my team of ladies, Kathy, Kim, Lorie and Ruth, who put in countless hours over the years and kept me on track, the tournament directors who put in long days and ran the FFG in US cities, and the numerous scorekeepers who showed up and helped our operation. These people were the backbone of the FFG. But, most importantly, I want to thank you, our loyal Forty Framers for your steadfast support and unwavering loyalty. Most especially the fantastic efforts of our Squad Leaders made this game what it is today. Our success is because of YOU! I will always appreciate your friendship and dedication.

It's time for the Big Kahuna to get some much needed r and r. I wish you all the very best.
