We want to welcome back the Farnum Family from Galena Missouri to perform on Saturday September 18.
Biography:
The Farnum Family from Galena, Missouri, is a six-piece family band that plays a lively blend of bluegrass, gospel, Irish, novelty and old-time western music.
They love to perform tunes that will have you tapping your foot and singing right along, or perhaps take you on a trip down memory lane. And a few songs will even make you laugh out loud!
Since forming their family band in 2004 they have played venues in Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and many times in their home state of Missouri. Besides their many church dates, they enjoy performing fairs, festivals, historic theatres and other family oriented venues. They average about 100 live performances per year... not bad for a part-time family band!
They were first invited to play at Silver Dollar City’s Bluegrass & BBQ Festival and Southern Gospel Picnic in 2006, and have since been invited back in ‘07, ’08, ’09 and 2010 for similar festival events. By a special recommendation, the entire Farnum Family was awarded a scholarship to attend the O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat in Midlothian, Texas in October of 2009.
Band Members:
Daniel, at 20, is doing a great job on the upright bass and lead vocals, and sometime plays around with the penny-whistle & bones. A fan of Marty Robbins, Josh Groban, Bar-J Wranglers and the Sons of the Pioneers, his rich baritone voice is featured on many of our songs.
Benjamin, at 18, makes his mandolin ring as he plays rhythm, melodic fills and intricate leads. His skills on the mandolin are exceptional playing bluegrass, Irish or Texas Swing! He also plays lead & rythm guitar and enough harmonica to be dangerous... He also sings harmonies with his siblings.
Hannah, at 15 years old, handles a good percentage of the instrumental leads for the family band. She has a confident style playing bluegrass, gospel, Irish or Texas swing! She also sings some sweet gospel & bluegrass songs. Hannah takes fiddle lessons from her teacher, Ricky Boen, star fiddler with the Sons of the Pioneers. She is also an award-winning fiddler of some acclaim, having placed 3rd at the 41st Annual Old-Time Fiddle Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas.
Nathaniel, now 13-years old, joined the group in August of 2006 and sings occasional gospel & specialty numbers with his siblings. He is learning to play the resophonic guitar, and often adds a touch of Irish percussion on the bodhran. He has also been known to play the spoons & washboard.
Maggie, at 9-years old, also plays the fiddle, and often makes her stage appearances with 7-year old Matthew, both singing on gospel & novelty tunes. With her big sister, Hannah, the two often accompany each other on some sweet fiddle duets.
