Nearly 1 in 3 Connecticut students in grades 7–12 participate in music, but middle schools are carrying most of the weight at 61%, while high schools sit at just 17%.

The system isn't declining. But it has a retention problem.

New data breaks down participation by grade level, poverty category, course type, and what it means for advocates working to strengthen music education pathways.
