Beneath The Desert Sky Ministries Hi. My name is Lanny Nelson, and this is BDS. I am a marathon/ultra runner, writer, and motivational speaker. Need some hope?

I will come talk to your group, church, club, whatever. We'll laugh, cry, pray, and find the strength to keep on going.

Easter morning. A day of Easter baskets and hunting for Easter eggs, having some good food and perhaps wearing some new spring clothes. I know that for many people the real story of Easter - Christ risen - seems more like a fable, a quaint anecdote pulled from the Bible. It is more like the story of Santa Clause than anything else.

This is where faith comes in. This is where we ask ourselves what really matters. What do we really believe? Do we believe in God? Do we believe that the Bible is God's book, and that it is a true book? If so, then it follows that we believe that Jesus is who he said he was and did what he came to do. And what he came to do was to save us and bridge the gap back to God.

I know it sounds like a myth. Like a "long, long ago" story. But what is "long ago" to God?

Easter is a time to consider the real story, and to ask ourselves if we are willing to accept and believe that story in faith, and to allow the story to change our lives. Because the simple fact is that the story of Christ Risen is, in fact, the greatest story of all, and mankind has been forever changed because of it. The choice to believe it or think of it as a myth is ours to make.

As for me, I have chosen to believe. I have not made this choice out of ignorance or because my parents believed it. I have put this choice under examination. And after 55 years on the planet, I have no doubt that the Easter story is real, and that Christ is Risen, and that God is in control.

Happy Easter everyone. God Bless.

Even though the fig trees have no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.

Do not worry. Pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10.

What does it mean to "be still" in today's world? For me it is a deliberate choice to stop: stop the movement, stop the noise, stop planning, etc. And to recognize that God is bigger than my life and everything in it and around it.

Take a moment today and be still.

The Fourth Quarter is coming up. The last three months of the year. Fall and Winter. Holidays. And then? 2015 will be upon us. What better way to prepare for 2015 than to take the Fourth Quarter and use it as a time of prayer. A time to thank God for his blessing and provision. A time to reflect. A time to prepare, with a humble heart, for what God will bring in 2015. A time put things into their proper perspective. This is my goal during the Fourth Quarter. Stay tuned ...

Our dog, Kona the Chocolate Lab, follows me from room to room. She waits for me to come home. She is always happy to see me no matter what the circumstances. Now that is loyalty. We can all learn a thing or two from a good dog.

No matter what you must keep going.

Faith is obeying God even when the blessings don't come. Faith is giving God 10% even when you don't get relief, even when you do run out. Faith is choosing to believe even when life doesn't work and doesn't get better.

Monday, April 30, 2012. 6:30 a.m. - My job is over. Today I will send my last invoice. What next, Lord? I don't know. I sit here wondering. Waiting. Looking and applying for jobs - again. Tick, tock. The world spins. The freeways are filled with people going to work. I am here, at home, these words in my head, but no work. I put pen to paper. Time to finish the book.

This is the real thing - faith. Daily faith. Our household will run out of money. We will have a problem. We are trusting God. It does look hopeless. We do feel anxiety pressing on us. Yesterday in church, when the offering basket came by, we put our money in. Trust. Faith. Hope. The real deal.

We approach the red sea, so close we can smell the salt in the air and hear the waves, and it has not parted yet, and the Egyptians are coming up fast. Fear in the belly.

We pray. And press on. Real life. What is faith? This is faith.
