The ancient art form of Brazilian Capoeira developed over 500 years ago by African people in Brazil to celebrate life. It was a fundamental building block of Brazilian culture and

united diverse communities residing in Brazil. Capoeira today has changed dramatically from its origins 500 years ago. Today it is a folkloric expression of Brazilian people that has become a nationally recognized art. Capoeira combines dance, music, song, acrobatics and philosophy. The music tells stories of the present and the past and is an important part of creating the ambience of the art. The art is played between two people inside a circle called the “roda”. Capoeira Angola’s philosophy teaches people key life skills such as confidence, self-discipline, fitness and self respect. Across the United States and worldwide, Brazilian Capoeira is practiced by people of diverse communities.1

A nice person recently asked if I am still offering classes. I've not done so since 2019, due largely to the pandemic. The silence on this page might be misconstrued as me having stopped entirely. That's not the case. If I'm being frank I tend to be an introvert and self-promotion just isn't something I do well.

Capoeira angola is a beautiful game and if you, Gentle Reader, are curious I'm more than happy to meet up. If my personality, abilities, and teaching style appeal to you, I would be happy to resume classes.

Interested in a class? Send a note to this account and let's set something up! I'm happy to teach individuals and small groups.

So recovering from a broken elbow takes considerably longer than I'd anticipated! But hey, it was my first time and good things willing it'll be my last. :)

Looking into starting class up again keep your eye on this space.

3 weeks until I'm clear to put full weight on my arm. Regular classes will resume around then. :)

I am forced to put classes on hold while I recover from a (non-capoeira related) injury. In the meantime, stretch, be well, and if it occurs to you to wear elbow pads when doing your sport of choice, maybe do that. ;)

Capoeira Angola - we are everywhere, and while in Japan I reached out to a group there.

Many thanks to Capoeira Angola Tokyo ( http://angolatokyo.sunnyday.jp ) for letting me join in. The harmony extended after class as they introduced me to Professor Toshi's Okinawa soba and a yozakura ( night cherry blossom viewing ) walk.

What wonderful people. What a great night! :D

No class for a couple weeks - family obligations and a trip. Stretch and be well and I'll see you later in the spring.

02/12/2019

Hi everyone! No class this evening due to unsafe driving conditions. Stay warm, stretch, and be well!
