LOW CONTINUES TO DEEPEN
This satellite and radar view shows the Nor’easter really beginning to take shape. You can see the low pressure center just off the Mid-Atlantic coast, and it continues to strengthen as it tracks northeast. Heavy rain is wrapping around the south and east side of the storm, while colder air is funneling in on the backside.

Temperatures across much of the region are still hovering in the mid to upper 30s, which may seem marginal for snow. But as this low rapidly deepens offshore, it’s increasing lift and pulling colder air down through the atmosphere. That heavy precipitation helps dynamically cool the column, allowing rain to transition over to snow from west to east through the afternoon.

Because surface temperatures are a little warm, this won’t be a light, fluffy snow. Instead, it will be a dense, wet snow. The kind that can accumulate quickly and put added stress on trees and even power lines. As the storm intensifies, winds will also increase, potentially leading to reduced visibility and near-blizzard conditions in spots.

If you have any final errands or preparations to make, have those done by lunchtime before conditions begin to deteriorate.
