Official Statement from the Bad Apples

We, the Bad Apples, would like to formally address and clarify any confusion or misrepresentation regarding the discontinuation of the BA Fly-In.

After careful consideration, the committee determined that the BA Fly-In had outgrown its venue. This determination is in no way a reflection on Hodges Field, which has been a valued and supportive location. In addition to venue limitations, the primary concern was the continued safety of the powered paragliding (PPG) community. Due to these factors, we were unable to secure an insurance policy that would allow the event to continue in a manner that met our safety standards and obligations.

Furthermore, the Bad Apples are not affiliated with, organizers of, or participants in any other fly-in events. While we fully support individuals and groups who choose to host fly-ins, the Bad Apples trademark name may not be used in connection with those events as an individual or a whole.

Any member of the Bad Apples is, of course, free to organize or participate in a fly-in of their choosing. However, such events may not be represented, advertised, or implied as a Bad Apples (BA) event in any capacity.

To our PPG community,

It is with great regret that we announce the Bad Apples 2026 Flyin will not take place this year.

Over the past nine years, this event has grown far beyond what we ever imagined. Attendance has increased steadily each year, and we have now outgrown Hodges Field. This decision brings us great sadness, as the Bad Apples Flyin has been an incredibly fun and meaningful fundraiser, raising $130,000 since its inception.

Please know that this decision was not made lightly. We spent a significant amount of time exploring multiple options to allow the event to continue. After careful consideration, we feel it is in the best interest of the PPG community to conclude the event.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mac Hodges for all the years of allowing us to use his pristine field, numerous volunteers, all of our dedicated sponsors, the powered paraglider pilots, and the many friends and family members who have supported and attended the Bad Apples Fly In over the years. Your involvement and generosity are what made this event so special and successful. Lastly, we’d like to thank Mrs Kate and her team for providing us the delicious home-cooked meals over the years at the event.
