Why do we packraft? For Christian Reinwarth, the answer seems to be somewhere between wanting to know what’s around the next bend and saying, “this might be a bad idea”... then doing it anyway.

“WHY WE PACKRAFT” brings together adventures from Northern Europe to Patagonia in a fun, slightly chaotic love letter to the little boats that keep carrying us into stories we probably never would have found otherwise.

In January 2025, Perry Miller traveled to Patagonia in search of remote rivers to float, fly fish and wild camp along. The Caleufú quickly became one of his favorites.

Caleufú brings us along on one of Argentina’s most beautiful rivers and into the kind of place that keeps pulling us toward whatever is around the next bend.

What happens when packrafting becomes a way back to the river?

Riverbound: The Storybook Has Just Begun, from filmmaker Deane Parker, follows Yak, a former professional guide and expert kayaker who became paraplegic after a canyoning accident.

Now he’s taking on the Upper Buller Gorge in New Zealand in a packraft… including its thundering Class III whitewater.

This film is about a lot more than getting back downstream. It asks what packrafting can make possible, who gets access to these places, and how much freedom a little inflatable boat can give someone.

Catch Riverbound as part of the 2026 International Packraft Film Festival at showings around the world.

Tim Johnson’s film “Strapped In” is part of the 2026 International Packraft Film Festival.

The film looks back at the early days of packrafting in Alaska, when boats were being borrowed, modified, strapped together, and figured out by people who were simply trying to move through wild country in a new way.

Tim shares the story of rigging up Roman Dial’s son’s boat back in the day, and gives us a glimpse into the scrappy, experimental roots of the sport.

Join us at a showing somewhere around the world.

Find upcoming IPFF showings on RallyCrew, or check the Packraft Film Fest website at the link in IPFF’s bio.

We’re stoked to have the American Packrafting Association supporting the 2026 International Packraft Film Festival!

APA does a ton of important work for the packrafting community through education, safety, stewardship, and helping more people connect with this sport in a thoughtful way.

And for everyone coming to the World Premiere at Bear Tooth Theatrepub in Anchorage on May 28th, APA will also be hosting a giveaway during the event.

Come support an incredible organization, watch a stacked lineup of packrafting films from around the world, and maybe walk away with some epic prizes while you’re at it.

Tickets are available through the Bear Tooth website. Link in bio.
