Good morning from historic McLean, Texas which was last town in Texas to be bypassed by I-40. It was home to the very first Phillips 66 station in the state, and also home to this museum we are visiting today.

“Devil’s Rope” was the nickname given to barbed wire by early ranchers and native Americans who described the injuries suffered by cattle who were caught in it as “the devil’s work.”

The 93 year old founder, Delbert Trew is an energetic rancher who said he learned how to cuss and everything he needed to know about “Bobbed Wire” from his life ranching in the area. His property butts up to old remnants of Route 66.

We’re spending a week all up and down the stretch of the Mother Road to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of this part of America’s DNA.
