We're excited to welcome Justin Roberts as the official Emcee of the 2026 Wurst Brass Festival on Saturday, June 20!

Justin spends his mornings on ๐Š๐‚๐‘๐†-๐“๐•๐Ÿ— helping Iowans start their day, but what many people don't know is that he's also a lifelong music lover. He's an accomplished pianist and organist who once dreamed of becoming a music teacher. So when it comes to spending a day surrounded by brass bands, great musicians, and enthusiastic audiences, he's right at home.

Of course, being our emcee means Justin will have a few important responsibilities:

If youโ€™ve never experienced a Whit Friday-style event before, hereโ€™s how it works: each brass band travels from venue to venue throughout the evening, performing live at multiple locations while judges score their performances at each stop.

On ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐๐š๐ฒ ๐ง๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ, ๐‰๐ฎ๐ง๐ž ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”, all 8 competing brass bands will rotate through THREE performance venues in the beautiful Amana Colonies from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM:

Each band features approximately 32 musicians, creating the huge, powerful sound that British-style brass bands are famous for!

At every location, each band will perform TWO marches in front of a live adjudicator (judge).

One march is the official โ€œTest March,โ€ which every band performs. This allows the judges to compare how each group interprets and performs the same music. The Test March accounts for 60% of the overall competition score.

The other march is the bandโ€™s own โ€œChoice March,โ€ selected to showcase their musical style, personality, and strengths. The Choice March makes up the remaining 40% of the final score.

One of the best parts? Audience members do NOT need to travel from venue to venue unless they want to. You can simply pick your favorite location, grab a drink, and stay put while all 8 bands rotate through your venue during the evening!

All three locations will have beer and other beverages available. And at the Festhalle Barn, the fantastic Ronneburg Restaurant will be serving delicious food from 4:30 PM โ€“ 9:00 PM. ๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿฅจ๐Ÿป
