U.S. ARMY 1ST CAVALRY DIVISION HORSE CAVALRY DETACHMENT COMING TO 2026 ALTUS BALLOON FESTIVAL

The Altus Parks + Recreation Department is excited to announce a special addition to the 2026 Altus Balloon Festival: the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment will be joining us on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for a live mounted cavalry demonstration.

The Horse Cavalry Detachment is one of only four mounted cavalry units on active duty in the United States Army and carries on the proud traditions and heritage of the U.S. Cavalry. Formed in 1972, the detachment has performed for audiences across the country, including Presidential Inaugural Parades, the 1984 World’s Fair, the Tournament of Roses Parade, and thousands of fairs, parades, rodeos, and community events.

Their traditional mounted demonstration showcases the skill and precision of cavalry Troopers and features mounted drill maneuvers performed at the walk, trot, and gallop. The demonstration also highlights historic cavalry weapons and equipment, including the Cavalry Saber, C**t .45 caliber Revolver, and Springfield Carbine.

The U.S. Army currently lists the Altus Balloon Festival demonstration for 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 24, at 5333 N. Main Street in Altus. Schedule and additional event details are subject to change.

Stay tuned to the Altus Balloon Festival and Altus Parks + Recreation pages for additional information, schedules, and announcements as we get closer to the festival.
