Thanks to everyone who purchased an (unused!) erg this year, and to our rowers and volunteers who helped get them to their new homes today. We missed hosting the rowing community at Erg Sprints this year, but we will return better than ever - and hopefully less snowy and icy - in 2027.

A NOTE FROM RACE DIRECTOR SHARON PEARCE
On behalf of Erg Sprints, thank you again for your efforts to race this year. We were sorely disappointed to have to cancel the event and will miss seeing you this year.

To follow up on our initial cancellation announcement, if you purchased an erg (or several ergs), distribution will still take place this Saturday at Alexandria City High School from 12:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. (new ergs had been delivered to the high school before the storm. The ergs from the boathouse were to be used in the warmup room). Please come to door #10, on the south side of the school by Chinquapin Circle. Unlike previous years, these ergs are unassembled and in the box (dimensions are 15" x 21.5" x 57").

The Erg Raffle will be drawn and winners will be notified electronically Saturday morning (in hopes you can pick up your brand new erg during the allotted time).

Participant and volunteer t-shirts will also be available for pickup at the school on Saturday. If you're able to pick-up on behalf of your club, that would also be great. We want to ensure t-shirts get to folks who purchased them. We are also willing to send shirts in bulk to clubs outside the metro area. We are unable to distribute t-shirts to individuals outside the area.

Finally, we will be rescheduling the Q&A: COLLEGE ROWING & COXING 101 and offering it as an interactive virtual meeting. Join us to learn about scholarships, recruiting, the collegiate rowing experience, balancing studies and training, and more. An announcement will be made once the new date is set.

We appreciate your patience and regret that we were unable to host Erg Sprints. Your support ensures that this race can continue in future years and helps us continue to invest in young rowers. We hope to see you again in 2027!

MOTHER NATURE HAD OTHER PLANS...
Due to the inclement weather and arctic chill that has descended on Northern Virginia, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Erg Sprints. While the school sidewalks and parking lots are mostly clear, our boathouse (from which we still needed to move 40 ergs, 200 miles of ethernet cables, an acre of gaffers tape, 42lbs of medals, and a bazillion other supplies) is completely iced in. Alexandria Public Schools are closed through at least tomorrow, and for the safety of our participants, volunteers, coaches, and rowers, we are sorry to have to cancel this year’s event.

For individuals and clubs who purchased an erg, we are working with the school to coordinate a time for pick up - please check your email for further information. Similarly, we are working on a plan to distribute t-shirts to those who have purchased them. We will also hold the raffle as planned and willl notify the winners electronically.

While we are disappointed not to be able to host this year, we remain grateful for the dedicated community that comes out and supports, exhibits, and participates in Erg Sprints year after year. This is a major undertaking, but the energy, talent, and dedication you all bring to the event makes it well worth it. We hope to see you again in 2027.
