CANCELLED... Sad news. Rampant bovines and heavy rains have destroyed our patch.
We hate to cancel, but there’s not much of a patch to be seen. Three times this year cows from a neighboring farm escaped and trampled the vines, and for the vines that survived that, untimely rains prevented pollination on the surviving vines.

That’s life down on the farm. We hope to have a few surviving pumpkins available at the farmers market in Alderson. We’ll see y’all next year. Your enthusiasm and support have been amazing. Keep supporting local businesses.

I hear Lewisburg Lanterns and Byrnside Branch Farm have plenty to go around.

Stay safe y’all!

We planted a plethora of sunflowers to share their sunny display.

This giant’s just getting started... Doubling its mass ~ every 24 hours. We hope to see you in the Patch, mid-october. (The brown spots are healed-over teethmarks from a critter — we think an otter or racoon). There is a seldom-used otter slide within 15 feet of this pumpkin.

Explosive pumpkin growth over 8 days.
By the time the patch opens this pumpkin could weigh almost a literal ton!

A pumpkin blossom lasts only for a day, but is actually open for only about 6 hours. It must be pollenated multiple times in the cool of the morning or the baby pumpkin at the base of the female flower will die. This video started at 6:30 am and each frame of the image was taken 5 mins apart. We look forward to seeing you at Creekside Pumpkin Patch.

Pollenators gonna pollenate. This is a male pumpkin flower. The flowers are most viable during the first few hours after sunrise.
