¡Hoy comienza la 11ª edición de ! El festival de cine latino organizado por el Instituto Cervantes se celebra este 2023 en tres ciudades y tres espacios diferentes: en la extensión de nuestro centro ubicada en la Southwest University de El Paso (Texas) los días 20 y 21 de septiembre, en el South Broadway Cultural Center de Albuquerque el 22 y 23 de septiembre y, por último, en la New México Highlands University de Santa Fe, el 6 y 7 de octubre.

Today begins the 11th edition of Cine Magnífico! The Latino film festival organized by the Instituto Cervantes will be held this year 2023 in three different cities and three different venues: at the extension of our center located at Southwest University in El Paso (Texas) on September 20 and 21, at the South Broadway Cultural Center in Albuquerque on September 22 and 23 and, finally, at the New Mexico Highlands University in Santa Fe, on October 6 and 7.

La extensión del Instituto Cervantes en El Paso (Texas) cuenta este año con un programa especial de películas para celebrar la edición 11 de Cine Magnífico.

Durante la segunda jornada de en Albuquerque (23 de septiembre) descubriremos al público la figura de , actor y director teatral que, durante cuatro décadas, se dedicó a dirigir y formar actores y actrices en Tijuana, Baja California. Conoceremos más sobre él gracias a una charla con , productor del documental 'Hebert Axel: vida y pasiones de un teatrero norteño', que se proyectará a continuación.

Además, el director chileno será una de las grandes sorpresas de esta edición de con ‘El castigo’, película ganadora del premio a la mejor dirección en la última edición del festival de Málaga (España). Rodada en un único plano secuencia, su angustiosa y dramática historia es también un absorbente estudio sobre la maternidad. Le precederá el cortometraje 'Sacrifici', de y , que reivindica como durante muchas generaciones las mujeres se han sacrificado para ayudar a su entorno.

Como es habitual, el programa de apoya y apuesta una edición más por el talento de Nuevo México. Dos realizadores de nuestro estado, y , nos acompañarán en el South Broadway Cultural Center para presentar sus trabajos 'Dispatch' y 'The Genízaro Experience'.

During the second day of in Albuquerque (September 23) we will discover to the public the figure of Hebert Axel González, actor and theater director who, for four decades, was dedicated to directing and training actors and actresses in Tijuana, Baja California. We will learn more about him thanks to a talk with Carlos Corro, producer of the documentary 'Hebert Axel: vida y pasiones de un teatrero norteño', which will be screened next.

In addition, Chilean director will be one of the big surprises of this edition of with 'El castigo', winner of the award for best director at the last edition of the Malaga Festival (Spain). Shot in a single sequence shot, its harrowing and dramatic story is also an absorbing study of motherhood. It will be preceded by the short film 'Sacrifici', by Sofía Martell and Lluís Prieto, which vindicates how for many generations women have sacrificed themselves to help their environment.

As usual, the program supports and bets one more edition for the talent of New Mexico. Two filmmakers from our state, and , will join us at the South Broadway Cultural Center to present their works 'Dispatch' and 'The Genízaro Experience'.

Cine Magnífico viene cargado de grandes sorpresas este año. La primera jornada del festival en el South Broadway Cultural Center de Albuquerque el viernes 22 de septiembre incluye los trabajos de dos interesantes voces femeninas del cine actual. Una de ellas es la de la directora argentina afincada en Los Ángeles . El programa de nuestra edición número 11 arranca con la proyección de su ópera prima ‘Manuela’, una historia sensible, real y honesta que habla sobre los diferentes tipos de maternidad y familias.

Otra de las propuestas es 'Estación Catorce'. Con su tercera película, la directora mexicana explora los distintos derroteros de las masculinidades, desde la mirada de un niño de solo siete años que aprende sobre la muerte y la picaresca, pero también sobre el amor y la violencia contenidos.

Cine Magnífico rinde homenaje también a , uno de los directores más personales del cine español desaparecido el pasado mes de enero. Proyectaremos su último trabajo cinematográfico ‘Loli Tormenta’ (estrenada en España de forma póstuma) así como su ópera prima ‘Tras el cristal’ (1987), seleccionada en el Festival de Berlín. Esta opera prima fue una revolución en el cine español. Un clásico de culto que recuperamos.

Cine Magnifico comes loaded with big surprises this year. The first day of the festival at Albuquerque's South Broadway Cultural Center on Friday, September 22 includes the films of two interesting female voices in cinema today. One of them is Los Angeles-based Argentine director . The program of our 11th edition kicks off with the screening of her debut film 'Manuela', a sensitive, real and honest story that talks about the different types of motherhood and families.

Another of the proposals is 'Estación Catorce'. With her third film, Mexican director explores the different paths of masculinities, through the eyes of a seven-year-old boy who learns about death and the picaresque, but also about love and violence.

Cine Magnífico also pays tribute to , one of the most personal directors of Spanish cinema who passed away last January. We will screen his last film work 'Loli Tormenta' (released posthumously in Spain) as well as his opera prima 'Tras el cristal' (1987), selected at the Berlin Film Festival. This opera prima was a revolution in Spanish cinema. A cult classic that we recover.
