🪻What’s better than going to the Lavender Festival at Balloon Fiesta Park on Saturday, July 26th? Not much! But maybe… growing your own lavender plant?? 🪻🌱
✨ When you pick the right variety, lavender can thrive in New Mexico’s sun and soil—low water, low maintenance, and high reward for pollinators and gardeners alike.
✨ Lavender prefers well drained soil, a sunny location, good air circulation, room to grow, and alkaline soils.
🌱 We’ll have lavender plants for sale at the Rio Grande Community Farm booth, including:
🪻Culinary Lavender: Folgate (Lavandula angustifolia)—a favorite for cooking!
🪻The rest of our varieties—Grosso, Provence, Super, and Seal (Lavandula intermedia)—aren’t ideal for eating, but they’re perfect for growing in New Mexico due to their heat, drought, and cold tolerance, as well as their strong fragrance. They’re excellent choices for hedges and have many uses, including drying, bouquets, and oil production.
✨ Take the magic of the Lavender Festival home with you and plant your own lavender in your garden!
